Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My current Porsche mechanic (MANTIS in Oakville) stated "most likely your engine has the bigger bearing because it was the most up to date engine they had in 2012 and only the seal was leaking and changed"

Leading evidence: 'most up' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'most up' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace "' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

so I've been told because the engine was changed in 2012, it came with the most up to date 3.6L engine...

I just paid for new plugs, new belt, cabin/air filter and oil change along with a borescope of the clyinders....mechanic said they are in good condition.

Suggestion
If your engine was replaced with a new one from Porsche (a crate engine), then yes, it has the larger diameter IMSB - a very reliable bearing that was used in all M96 and M97 engines after 2005.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

There are a few tricks people try but none of them have worked for me.
Started signing up on multiple forums...this is my first post on all forums
First time Porsche owner.
I picked up a 2003 911 C2
It is a midnight blue, with apparently a very rare interior...it has an orange/caramel interior with red stitching and a black suede headliner....(not sure if the headliner was done after or it is from factory). I've been told, people were able to customize many things and porsche did them for the buyer.
It has 150ish km on the car, and at 100km the engine was changed by porsche...the notes show massive oil leak, and a cylinder was scored badly.
carfax shows accident along the driver side back in 2004 and a hail damage claim roughly 7 years ago
The clutch was new (sachs) at 10k ago, brake fluid was done 10k ago as well.
I just paid for new plugs, new belt, cabin/air filter and oil change along with a borescope of the clyinders....mechanic said they are in good condition.
Just getting used to the car, already researched some common issues which I need to decipher through....things on my to do list:
a) figure out the keys, one works fine, and one has a flashing red light when I press the button (means to me that the battery is good), but it isn't doing anything with the car.
b) I was told I can unlock the car with the key, even though it was previously alarmed, but when I do that and sit inside...the alarm sirens
c) need to relocate/find the emergency frunk/engine release
d) noticed under the rear passenger seat was wet along with the carpet under the seat...read about the drain need the wheel well, need to check both at the rear, but I can't visualize the ones at the front
e) the car has 18" 5 spoke wheels with winters: F: 235/40/18 R: 275/35/18 ..I think my rear rim is 10" wide...manual says (for summer tires) F: 225/40/18 and R: 285/30/18
f) I probably won't be driving this car in the winter too often, was told to buy a battery tricker charger (or battery tender - not sure if they are 2 diff things)...but when looking them up, I see diff ratings...which one would suit my car? Also somebody said do not buy a cigarette lighter product because then I need to open my window
g) stock deck is replaced with an old JVC (bluetooth)...but I noticed the frunk has a connector dangling and there is no disc changer...I assume the plug was for that
h) learn to remove the front bumper to learn the radiator clean out
Last for now, I found this link with my VIN:
https://vinanalytics.com/car/WP0AA29983S622157/
so I've been told because the engine was changed in 2012, it came with the most up to date 3.6L engine...
Based on the paperwork from Porsche..this is what the invoice says: 996-100-995-dx 3.6L 05 996 Carrera
There is an invoice from the previous owner who has a charge for about $150 for IMS seal.
My current Porsche mechanic (MANTIS in Oakville) stated "most likely your engine has the bigger bearing because it was the most up to date engine they had in 2012 and only the seal was leaking and changed"
Congratulations and welcome!
It's common that one or both key remotes don't work. There are a few tricks people try but none of them have worked for me. It's likely that there is a problem with the circuit board inside the key - bad/broken solder connections. I've learned to live with inserting the key to lock/unlock the door.
Welcome mate! Like your username!
My 03 C2 is also Midnight Blue Metallic, we need to see lot's of pics of that interior, and exterior!
Sounds like you have a nice one there!
Welcome! Would love to see some pics.
If your engine was replaced with a new one from Porsche (a crate engine), then yes, it has the larger diameter IMSB - a very reliable bearing that was used in all M96 and M97 engines after 2005.
Looks like you also have the M030 suspension - Porsche's sport suspension for the 996 which has different springs, dampers, and sway bars.
Pictures will hopefully be up by the weekend!
for battery tenders...I've searched and read about the CTEK 3300 which is about $80 CAD on amazon....Canadiantire.ca sells the NOCO ones for similar price and napacanada sells the 'battery tender - junior' (similar in price too)
Is one really that much better than the other?
I've been using the Canadian Tire battery tender for many years. Plug into the lighter socket and run the cord out at the bottom of the door. Works like a charm.
