I suspect the alarm switch for the center console cover/door works intermittently causing the alarm and remote key fob to also misbehave.
Leading evidence: 'alarm switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'alarm switch' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill door i'll' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have observed if I open and close the console compartment cover the key fob will start working properly again, this is why I suspect the micro switch that senses the closure of the console cover.

And then using the key in driver's door does it set alarm when locking and when unlocking give you 10 seconds to put key in ignition to disarm alarm before it goes off?

This alarm fault can be lived with but we don't get clear signal alarm set so I always have to lift door handle to ensure locked.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I suspect the alarm switch for the center console cover/door works intermittently causing the alarm and remote key fob to also misbehave. I have not been able to find this switch in the wiring schematics in my Bentley manual. My assumption is that the switch closes the contacts when the door is closed and opens the contacts when the door is opened. If my assumption is correct, connecting the two wires to the switch together would simulate a console door that was permanently closed wouldn't it? I am not concerned that the center console door would not be protected by the alarm,it is more important to me that the key fob works consistently. Thanks in advance for sharing any thoughts or similar issues you have had.
What exactly happens to cause you to believe the alarm and key fob misbehave? Carefully note and post when you turn the alarm on and off with the remote do the lights flash and if yes what is pattern, does the horn give one or two beeps, or is there silence and no lights? And then using the key in driver's door does it set alarm when locking and when unlocking give you 10 seconds to put key in ignition to disarm alarm before it goes off? Knowing these symptoms will help identify where the problem is.
When the key fob is working, lights flash twice, no beeps and alarm light on top of the dash flashes rapidly and then slows down after a few moments. When the fob is not working nothing happens, so I have to lock with the key. When I unlock with the key then I have to insert the key quickly and turn to on or horn starts beeping. I have observed if I open and close the console compartment cover the key fob will start working properly again, this is why I suspect the micro switch that senses the closure of the console cover.
Two flashes and no beeps means entire
car alarm
system working 100%.
Unlock with key and insert in ignition indicates entire
car alarm
system working 100%. Key in door is backup for inoperative
key fob
part of alarm system.
When certain sensors such as glove box and console compartment are open when locking with remote lights flash twice to indicate
car alarm
system working 100%, and horn beeps once to indicate one or more
sensors open
.
Since you did not say you ever had one beep, apparently your center console and other
sensors
are ok, and it appears the
key fob
part of the alarm system is intermittent from needing battery replacement, bad switch, or bad circuit card.
When disabling the alarm and (and unlocking) with the remote my car beeps twice but does not flash. The source of the problem on mine is a bad micro switch for the fuel door and possibly one for the drivers door handle related to the window. Havent bothered to address it.
Also just to point out. You said your key fob sometimes is noy working. By design, if the car is locked with the fob, the car will stop looking for the fob after 5 day (i think its 5 days) to save the csrs battery. You must unlock the car with the door and turn the car on to restore this function. Again this is by design and is in the owners manual.
Ours beeps twice when unlocking (alarm system fail) most of the time but it is intermittent. Last night it did the proper single and double flash. Another poster on this list has it as solid fault.
Also intermittent when unlock door with key sometimes immediate alarm instead of delay, make me suspect something in that complicated drivers door latch not reporting to alarm module door unlocked with key. If we have wiring diagram should be easy to identify specific signal to look for. Gas fill door I'll check that.
This alarm fault can be lived with but we don't get clear signal alarm set so I always have to lift door handle to ensure locked.
