Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I only see one part number for the heater core from AutoAtlanta so I'm guessing no difference.

No unique explicit quoted action; no causal link assigned

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read a couple threads about heater core replacement on a 996 C2 and it looks amazingly easy as you don't have to remove the dash like in a lot of cars. However, what about an all wheel drive car? I have coolant smell when I use the heater in my C4S so I assume I have a leak at the core or nearby. Before I dig in, however, I'd like to know what I'm up against. I read that the AWD cars have an AC line that needs to be moved, requiring AC discharge, to get to the core. Can anyone confirm this or otherwise comment on how difficult the job is? Also, do the all wheel drive cars have a different core than the RWD cars?

POST 2Original post

I only see one part number for the heater core from AutoAtlanta so I'm guessing no difference. I had my Indi change mine while in for other work(I had the antifreeze odor too) and I don't recall any charges concerning AC discharge/recharge but I might have missed that. I do know it comes out under the frunk and looks pretty straight forward.
