BTW: these turbo twists take special valve stems ($75/set overnight), but this new tire guy I used to install the new tires says he can make his "stems" work just fine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yesterday: pulling wheels, removing tire weights and sticky residue crap, touched up little chips, wash/dry and load in truck. Today: Have new Sumitomo 285/30ZR-18 Sumitomo HTR Z5 XL / 235/40ZR-18 Sumitomo HTR Z5 XL from Tirerack installed, gave the tire install guy up front a $20 for lunch and doing a great job for me because I'm the only **** person on the planet about his wheels, lol (thanks for the tip from this forum) and they did a fabulous job. Washed/waxed rims again, put that frickin anti-sieze paste on proper spots, installed and was ready for a test run, when, OHHHHHHHHHHH Sugar Honey Ice Tea, it's raining!!!!!! Arghhhhhhh. I am flying out for work in the am and won't be back for 1 1/2 weeks till I can touch her. I am deeply saddened, but the anticipation is a lovely thing. BTW: that anti-sieze paste is a frickin mess to deal with and try to keep off anything else you touch!!!!!!! I used it sparingly, but still...... Anyways, all done and I didn't screw anything up. That's a big deal for me. I am not the greatest DIYer, but I can tackle some things, lol. The dinner bell was ringing so I could not shoot off any pics installed and now it's pouring so I covered her up and put her to bed for the time being. Also: I had the Sumitomo HTR ii on it before and did not care for them. Not soft enough and I was starting to get a little squirrely and the previous owner had run them over inflated so they were worn on the insides so it was good to let them go. These new 5's are supposed to be more aggressive without going too crazy and were economical for my 'weekend spirited driving'.

POST 2Original post

Looks great, who did your rims and what process did they use? Thnx

POST 3Original post

I have a set of black painted turbo twists in VT that I'd sell.

POST 4Original post

I have them on my 04 c4s, lapis blue and am thinking black rims might look good on it(plus they need to be redone anyway) So all it is is painted? I've really never looked into any options of redoing them.

Would those rims work for my planned 03 c4s snow tires? Im looking for a set if so.

POST 6Original post

It would be interesting to see the difference between these and the new Falken FK510s. Falken and Sumitomo are the same company.

A local guy I found in Algona, he sand blasted, sanded some curb rash smooth and powder coated them for me. Turned out pretty good. They are not as 'bullet proof' as I had hoped and so a couple of rock chips have occurred (and I let one rim fall on it's face and scratch a little), but black matte paint applied and looks fine. I seem to be the only one that ever notices Let me know if you are in the Seattle area and I'll give you his info. Very reasonable. I think I paid around $250 for all 4 to be done. Dismount/mount and balance separate. BTW: these turbo twists take special valve stems ($75/set overnight), but this new tire guy I used to install the new tires says he can make his "stems" work just fine. I don't know/can't confirm and I didn't need them since mine are only 1 year old.

Thanks, I'm in S FL so Seattle's a little out of the way! What color is your car?

POST 9Original post

Really? All that work, new tires, and you cant drive it in the rain? Why not? What happens if you do? Cmon... remember what Dr. Porsche said...These cars are meant to be driven, not polished...

I just washed and waxed car and then all the wheel work, the new rubber not broken in, wet asphalt.....just sounds like a bad idea for me. I don't know how to be soft on the pedal with this car!!!! I have these flashes of guardrails on a turn and the car is stuck to it, lol. I don't want to be "that guy".
