Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So, the harness was replaced with one from an auto/tiptronic transmission (and this wire was just left hanging?)?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. Porsche 1999 996 cabriolet with replacement engine (possibly newer? Has larger 3rd gen IMS bearing) so not sure on year of engine. Manual Trans. Just finished putting everything back together after having the heads machined. Every thing went well but now I have this mystery wire coming off harness that also carries crank pos sensor, cam position sensor, cam actuator (right near air oil seperator). I'll attach pictures. Does anyone know what this could be? i cant find ANYWHERE that it could go. It almost seems like a dead end wire. (Possibly goes with auto trans?) This is a manual. Help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

POST 3Original post

Just guessing based on location. Crankshaft position sensor?

Thats already connected. This wire is coming from the same harness as the CPS though. Thanks for the input

I was thinking more along the lines of muffler bearings or maybe horn fluid. Lol.

POST 6Original post

Looks like that would be for the Tiptronic change-over valve to turn off/on the water flow to the Tip oil cooler.

Is that a component of the automatic trans? If so, this car is manual. So this wire would just be a dummy wire essentially?

POST 9Original post

So, the harness was replaced with one from an auto/tiptronic transmission (and this wire was just left hanging?)?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
