This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at a 99 996 to use as a track car. It had a previous electrical fire in the dash. Does not make me feel very good. Car has been fully repaired. I'm just wondering if this thing is safe to park in my garage, really do not want to burn down my house. Anyone know if there is problems with electrical fires in this year?

POST 2Original post

I've never heard of any problems like that. So far mine hasn't.

POST 4Original post

Too many cars available to take the risk... imho I suggest you look at the next car.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My guess is that it was likely caused from a poor wiring aftermarket stereo job.

POST 7Original post

There was one about 18 months ago on the PCGB site, but I can't remember the name of the subscriber. The car had been recently repaired and was written off by the insurers....

POST 8Original post

I think the PO just dropped a cigarette down the vent - you should be good...

POST 9Original post

Personally I'd keep looking unless you're planning on gutting the thing anyway. But if you buy it you could always just disconnect the battery or put a battery switch in.

POST 10Original post

Very true, I have seen this in a number of cars, but never in a 996. Connecting the jumper battery up the wrong way to the car battery when doing a jump start is another not uncommon cause, but again whilst I have seen or heard of this with other Porsche models and even an Audi, I have never seen any evidence of dash fires in a 996. Ciao, Adrian.

POST 11Original post

I have owned my 99 c2 cab 6 spd blk/blk and have never heard of any dash fires
