Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a few AX, rallye, etc I'm ready to try out the track. What's the best way for a newbie to get introduced to the track? DE, PDE? Can I rent the track (say with a few others) for an hour or so? Which clubs, events, etc should I look out for (e.g.

)? I guess Laguna Seca and Thunderhill are the tracks close to me
I'm looking for something easy on the wallet
... and on a different note, maybe I'll try out the Silver State Classic next year (inspiration from Simon).
I am in the same predicament and preparing for next years season. The route I am going is to jump onboard with the NASA HPDE program.

I'd recommend attending a DE event. It is very cost effective and the level of instruction is very good. They sort the drivers by run group based on skill levels. this helps keep all safe and having fun.
Steve
PCA have a lot of events in the region.
I went to my first at Infineon earlier this month, and am going again to Thunderhill next friday.
PCA-GGR have a full season of track weekends at Buttonwillow, Thunderhill and Infineon (i guess Laguna was undergoing resurfacing this year so there were a lot less private club days??)
PCA-SVR run with Trackmasters Racing mainly weekday events. (trackmasters-racing.com i think??)
Infineon was about $320 for the day, 5 run sesions of 20-25 minutes each.
Thunderhill was $240 for the day, i guess similar runs.

or try shifter-kart racing, once I starting karting the P-car feels like a Hummer on the track. Plus you can get a Kart that wil stomp a GT3 for around $15k.
^what he said. I had one when I was 4 years old, wish I would have stuck with it. Karting will def. be a big part of my decision where to move to in the next few years when I look for warmer climes.
Alex,
See my post.
approx 5, 20-25 minute sessions for the day, plus i got to ride shotgun with the instructor for two of his sessions in a 996 TT with all the track gear.... WOW
DE cost in my region (RTR) is $110/day and our events are either 2 or 3 days.
As for seat time, there is generally 4 run groups of 20-25 minutes per day. You will have a nationally certified instructor until a point when he/she feels that you can solo (drive on your own).
Steve
aben8057, DE is a great way to get started in a safe environment. Around here (VIR) the cost is around $345 for a three day event. They usually run four 25-30 minute sessions for each group. I highly recommend it.
thanx..sounds like it can become addictive.
My plan is to buy a 951/944 platform and use that for the events. My goal is to become a better drive and learn the basics in a safe environment.
Simply join the PCA. Sign up for their next event. You'll be a novice and have an instructor assigned to you for the event...usually the same person. Go to the DE Forum and ask the same question and you'll get some very good answers and suggestions. Good luck.
Alex,
Youve got the perfect car already... the 996 is great.
I took my 01 C4 Cab, all stock and it was great... you dont need a race car to start at all, just some tire and brake life left and money for gas (3.99 a gallon and 8MPG !!!!)
I would just sign up and try it, despite what you read on these boards about all the upgrades that make the car perfect, you will do just fine fully stock for a while
Good Point. A 125cc shifter Kart get's it on really well. Lot's of well known pro drivers came up through the Kart ranks...as you know. Lots of bang for the $$
Infinion has a really nice kart track too.....
