I just checked the 997 GT3RS, which is the most track oriented Porsche currently offered, to see what is standard equipment.

With that said though, if I was getting them for more street use, I would go with the leather ones.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

The leather version is damn comfy. Probably look nice longer too.

POST 3Original post

Leather for sure! The bottom and rear cushions come out BTW so you can add padding or change color...like me!

POST 4Original post

Depends upon how you plan to use the car. If you are using it for the track, alcanthara would be far, far preferable. Leather is blingy. Alcanthara is clingy. You want clingy.

POST 5Original post

With all due respect, you will not slide out of these seats at the track. Also if you want get the CG lock.

POST 6Original post

I went with the cloth versions just b/c I liked the appearence better that the leather. And I love them on the track! I think either or will work just fine. With that said though, if I was getting them for more street use, I would go with the leather ones. Mine pull STRICLY track duty then come out after the weekend so I really like the cloth ones for that purpose.

POST 7Original post

As I explained, the ideal choice would depend largely upon how he plans to use the car. I can't recall any true track seats that are made out of leather. Alcantara or cloth is much better for that use. If you are using the car for dual purpose, then either would be fine. Leather is not defective, but people shouldn't make it sound like it is the optimum choice under all circumstances. Indeed, if I recall correctly, the ROW versions of the GT3, or at a minimum the GT3 RS, come with alcantara. I personally would get leather for a street car.

POST 8Original post

Agreed. For "true track seats" you need to pass fire codes? Agreed...peace!

POST 9Original post

Yeah, I have no interest in arguing. I am just bringing another perspective. I just checked the 997 GT3RS, which is the most track oriented Porsche currently offered, to see what is standard equipment. Sure enough, it is Alcantara. Here is what they say: "There are two high-quality materials in the 911 GT3RS that reflect its sporting credentials: genuiine leather and Alcantara. The benefits of Alcantara include exceptional grip and can therefore be found wherever optimum hand contact is required." I note that the seats are also covered with Alcantara, which is fine for both racing and street fire codes.

POST 11Original post

I have leather in my track car. I wish they were cloth. Like big TD said, all depends on the primary usage. -KJ

POST 12Original post

How would one add padding? Since I have a problem with my back, I would need extra padding at the lower portion. Cloth or leather....... I got leather because that's what was for sale. If I would of had the choice, I would of went with cloth eventhough the side bolsters wear out fast getting in and out.

POST 13Original post

"big TD"? Sadly, I really am starting to resemble that remark. Hey KJ, You have the GT3 seats, right? If so, you can buy the alcantara inserts and swap them in and out as you wish. Here is the link: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96122.htm Too bad you were not at the club race this year . . . TD

POST 14Original post

The lower sections and the back sections have velcro openings. I just put some of that memory foam (just like the mattress stuff) in the lower piece and it is perfect.

POST 15Original post

Mine came with lumbar insets that go behind the lower padding that is removed (velcro attached).

POST 16Original post

IMHO.........leather unless its a full track car............ Mine also came with a pad behind the lumbar area....

POST 17Original post

I never got padding behind the lumbar area, but then again I bought mine used. what does it look like? maybe I can fabricate something.

POST 18Original post

Just remove the back section (it is secured with velcro)....it has a velcro opening. Cut a piece of memory foam from a 1" mattress pad and stuff it in there.
