I was in a similar situation earlier this year with one of the Tequipment ovals -- passenger side wouldn't line up horizontally when installed (see pic below).

If you can detach the tips themselves from the flange extensions, then you can use your existing flange extensions with the DPS tips.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All, Bought a set of aftermarket exhaust tips for my '02 C2 Cab (Duel tips, shown on the left of picture) from DPS-motorsports about a month ago, but despite the what's shown on the website (URL below) (it was advertised for 02' or newer 996) it didn't fit the car when I tried to get them installed. From the picture, you can see the flange connection on the Duel tips (Left side) is WAY too short when compared to the oval tip (right side). DPS-motorsports has sent out replacement tips but found out all of the tips in stock were wrong and correct tips may not be available anytime soon. (don't even know timeframe) http://www.dps-motorsports.com/after...aspx?prod=8934 To make a long story short, DPS has offered to refund my money but after all the time and effort wasted on these tips (plus I liked the way those tips look), I really hate to return them for a refund, since I tried so hard to get them onto the car. So the QUESTION is: Can these tips be installed onto the car with minor mod to the tips (cuting and re-weld)? If so, where should I go? DPS has suggested Midas would do it for approx. $75, but I don't know if Midas can do it (or do a good job). If not Midas, then who else? I'm Jacksonville, FL. Any sugguestions? Thanks Regards, Peter

POST 2Original post

Easy. I would get a refund and go with another vendor. There are many other vendors out there that make what you are looking for. Start a thread on dual tip choices for an 02 C2 and you will get plenty of hits

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know but I got a pretty good price on these (of course didn't know the tips wouldn't fit). Hate to pay double the price for other tips.

POST 4Original post

Totally understand. If the price is significant and still comes out significantly cheaper than another brand then you have made your decision. But.......if with the install the price is roughly the same or NOT significantly different I would go with a PROPER fit and get them through another vendor.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I totally agree, this is my last effort to get them on with minor mod to the tips, I just wasn't too sure about going with Midas. I went to a local Porsche Specialist and was quoted $300 for the install which is a lot more than what I wanted to spend. The Vendor had suggested Midas, Hopefully, Midas can do a good job. Thanks

POST 6Original post

Holy crap! $300??? Is that with or without lube?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah and the tips only costed me $225. I can't justify spending $500+ on these, for $600 I can get a set of Turbo look tips by Porsche.

POST 9Original post

If you can detach the tips themselves from the flange extensions, then you can use your existing flange extensions with the DPS tips. I know the stock tips can be detached from the extensions but you may need to sever a weld to remove the DPS ones.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the sugguestion, but.... The DPS tips are welded solid to the flange extensions, looks like cutting off the DPS flange, add an extension and re-attach DPS flange is the only option.

POST 11Original post

That sounds like the only way to go, and I wouldn't think that's terribly difficult for any muffler shop since it's just adding an extension. I was in a similar situation earlier this year with one of the Tequipment ovals -- passenger side wouldn't line up horizontally when installed (see pic below). I had the local meineke shop cut a slit in the tube and re-weld at an angle so the fit would be more correct and visually appealing. I'd imagine that was more difficult than your situation. BTW, is that a Dansk tip I see in your pic (on the right)? It looks similar to the ones I used to have.
