Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The normal wheel bolt is 96 ft-lb (130 Nm) torque. Does anyone know the torque for wheel lock bolt? Thanks,

POST 3Original post

I use 88. Just say'in. Actually, just set my torque wrench to 90 and let it click!

If the factory spec is 96, why are you intentionally under torque them? If anything, set it to 100 instead of 90.

POST 5Original post

Just so I can make trouble here. It's not going to change anything.

POST 7Original post

Throw out the wheel lock bolts. The likelihood of having the wheel lock socket placed in the frunk and the frunk lid not opening because your battery is dead and you need to find the emergency release cable which is up under the passenger side light and is inaccessible because you have to be in the frunk to release the headlight and so on and so forth. Nobody is going to steal your wheels (unless maybe you live/park in a ghetto). Did I mention I hate wheel lock bolts?

POST 8Original post

Ha, had that happen to me! Luckily I had a floor jack, lift r-fr, turn wheel full right to gain access to all the plastic things for the wheel liner, gained access to frunk release that way. But yeah, I would have been screwed since the jack and tool kit, and wheel lock is in the frunk!

POST 10Original post

Uncle owned a tire shop, we probably removed a dozen wheel locks a week, we used harbor freight sockets and a hammer,, drive a 12 point over the lock and turn it out with a wrench.. Just like the wheel thieves will..

POST 11Original post

I got rid of my wheel locks ….. no more trouble.

POST 12Original post

I still have my complete set of wheel locks and key lug in a box. I don't use them. That's why I pay for insurance. There was a time when I didn't have the key lug and had to travel to a Porsche dealership to get the wheel locks identified. I couldn't remember the lock number. Then, I had to wait to for a replacement to be ordered. My wife and I were traveling. Kind of a scary situation if you have a flat tire. I bought standard lugs for all of my wheels. I take them off all of my cars.
