I bet the RS guy was getting frustrated when every time he looked up in a corner and there was that pesky little 996 filling his mirrors!

Use weight transfer appropriately is such a great advantage

This is a great set of videos that show s the choosing the right line and using the weight transfer appropriately is such a great advantage.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Love it, I have a photo that was taken at a track session where I'm in front of a 997 GT3 as well. Of course since it's a static shot it leads to the impression that I'm beating him into that corner.
The reality of it was that during the next straight my arm went out the window and I let him have the point-by!
Was going about 80 following a few cars up to Duluth in the rain yesterday. Then got to a point where there was a puddle and my steering went slack for a split second. After that went to the slow lane and took my time.
=)
On a track wet conditions would be fun though, as long as there were no walls to hit or anything.
IMO, a MK1 C2 model without any PSM is one of the most challenging cars to drive out of the street 996 lineup but it rewards you when you do get it right and everyone knows that you're showing your true colors and not having your skills(or lack of) be masked in anyway in the form of nanny's/awd/etc.
I remember going to the track when the EVO's first came out in the US and this young kid was getting some really good times, of course he was letting the car practically drive him.
Vander: Thanks for the video! Great driving. I bet the RS guy was getting frustrated when every time he looked up in a corner and there was that pesky little 996 filling his mirrors!
Had a chance to look at the video. Guy in GT3RS looks like an inexperienced guy judging by how fast he's able to pull on you in the straights compared to the corners. Either way, very nice driving. It looks like you caught up to him on all the corners. Wonder if that guy came from a Rustang or Vette. Those guys are notorious for straight line speeds and that's about it.
One of my most fun track days - playing with two 997 GT3's at Pacific Raceway. It's a great day when you can pass a GT3 on track

Its a Ram Mount at the highest point on the windshield. The glass is the weakest link with how stiff these chassis are so the flex is the glass vibrating and bending through the turns. If you mount the camera on the rear glass its even worse. If I mount it on the roll cage its fine but means I need to do more setup and editing as the microphone picks up all of the wind with the windows down. The best part of this setup is its set it and forget it.
I'll play the home field advantage card on this. I really had to nail my line on every corner to carry as much momentum just to keep up. He was absolutely flying through the straights. I've seen him around a few events and this isn't his only amazing car, he's a PCar guy and the conditions really favored the AWD.
These new 360 cameras are awesome. It was shot with a Kodak SP360 4K. It shoots in 4k when aimed head on like a a GoPro or provides these 270 degree views which mean I don't have to aim or edit the video at all. I simply charge the batteries the night before, mount it and go. Pretty simple.
No kidding. If you can sort out light braking and throttle control in the wet, you'll be insanely fast in the dry!
AWD with LSD is a heck of thing.
I've actually watched your video before. Nice driving! Are you coming out to any more events this season? I actually was signed up for that event but had to miss due to work - was in an M3 at the time
Thanks. Been watching your build and your driving progression as well - very impressive.
2014 was my busiest year on track - did about a dozen track days that year, mostly at the Ridge. Then only one 2 day event last year due to my engine imploding. I was at Pacific Raceway in May this year and plan to get out again to the Ridge. Hope to see you there.
Nice job!
I participated in a driving school about 10 years ago at Road Atlanta, and one of the instructors was Cass Whitehead. Great guy. He had an interesting story about driving the Cayenne on the track when it first launched. He and several of the other drivers were able to turn in faster lap times in base model, V6 Cayennes than many of the course participants in GT3s. His point was that the driver and his or her skills matter more than the car. I think we have all seen guys in Miatas tear it up at the track.
Here's a few laps of me tracking a 2016 GT3RS:

Note: The '16 GT3RS is only a few weeks old. As it was so new it needed some acclimation, this being only the second day its had at the track so far. Under normal circumstances they (car and especially driver) would out drive anyone...so yes, I'm having to drive the pants off my car to keep up with a moderately driven RS. Sounded amazing - in the last few minutes you can't actually hear my exhaust over the amount of noise coming into the cabin from it.
Cool video...although I think driver skills may have played even more of a role than you're humbly acknowledging. The way you caught him in corners, even with AWD was amazing....but, wow, is that thing fast in the straights!!!

Here's another 360 view chasing a 991 GT3. Converted the 4S to RWD (diff and axles still in here) without changing the alignment at all - might be some of my best driving this year

Very cool. This is a great set of videos that show s the choosing the right line and using the weight transfer appropriately is such a great advantage. You really take advantage of the full track. I am impressed. I need to up my skill sets.
Best camera setup I have seen, most track day videos I am bored a half a minute into them. It was fun to see your focus on driving as the GT3 powered away, very methodical skill being applied.
