Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I'd want to look at the unibody "frame" rails in the engine bay and check for evidence of welding, paint work on the rear quarters before I spent a lot more on project work.
Leading evidence: 'Check evidence of welding, paint work' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greeting everyone.
Long time lurker here, learning about these great cars. Lots of good info in these forums. Thanks for everyone's contributions, its very helpful to newbies to learn from.
Saw this car on Ebay, higher mileage but looks to be in good condition for 8K. I seen people pay almost as much for just a roller although this does seem to have a transmission code that needs to be addressed.
What are people's opinions?

Thanks!
Put the deposit on it. They still need to smog it. I will check it out this coming weekend.
I'm expecting it to need some work for that price but don't mind a project to play around with.
Congrats. Should be a fun project.
Downsides - tiptronic, lots of miles, rear end accident, aftermarket rims and tires. But for that price, seems like a steal.

Sounds good for a project though, especially if the engine has live left in it (or you are going to swap it for something new)
Looks like a good project. I would fix what needs to be fixed and drive it. From the description in eBay, it appears you will have to address suspension bushings. No surprise there. I had to redo the suspension on my 99 after I bought it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. A little family emergency came up and I'm not able to travel down to check out the car and personally inspect it.
The seller was very understanding and refunded my deposit. Seems like an honest seller. I think this would be a good project for someone.
Not sure I'd recommend this one to anyone unless they're Porsche mechanics. This car will need a rebuild soon since it has that many miles and with the Tiptronic showing a torque converter problem, I'd probably keep moving down the road. Seems like I read a thread here on Rennlist about someone that bought a Tiptronic 996 car with a torque converter problem and ended up losing big time. Had to sell it as a roller.
