I am going to use new tip clips and cat sleeves from design 911 but am slightly worried about getting the old ones off.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys,
I have a 99 996 C4 cab with 3.4l engine.
Does anybody know if the stock silencers are universal across the 3.4 and later 3.6 cars? or if there is any diffence between C2/C4 silencers from similar year?
Thanks.
If you are talking about non-PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust), there is little difference between 3.4 and the 3.6 stock mufflers, so they are interchangable. It is my understanding that the 3.6 mufflers have a little "better" sound. I believe the C2 and C4 use the same muffler. If you can,
thanks guys for your help.
i just won a pair of silencers from 02 996C4 with 3.6 on e-bay.
Practically unused since they were taken off to fit aftermarket system at delivery and never refitted.
I am hoping that they will fit my car OK. Aftermarket system would have been nice but car is under Porsche waranty still so i better fit stock parts.
I fitted 3.6 boxes to my 3.4 (the newer ones seem to have a sort of flexi-joint on the input side). Much better sound (and the baffles didn't buzz!).
Expect to have fun releasing the mild steel bolts on the tail tip clamps....
Thanks peter,
How much fun with the bolts did you have and what was your solution?
I had a look under the car last night. Taking the cat sleeve off doesnt look too bad but the bolts on the tip end look disentegrated.
I am going to use new tip clips and cat sleeves from design 911 but am slightly worried about getting the old ones off.
My headers dont look great either and i think they will need doing in the not too distant future. I dread to think what they will cost!!
jlx,
sorry i do not know the size of the clamps for the tips. i just performed a 911 exhaust serach on google and found them at:
www.design911.co.uk
They have standard OEM and stainless option available. Like you i will probably go for stainless.
