Suggestion

It has been rather slow here in the NY area, after last weeks small plane incident, I am sure they could use the story.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, Some punk with a pellet or BB gun picked me off!! There I was all by myself on the Merrit Parkway in Wallingford, CT talking to my bro in CA when.............WHAM!!!! Glass everywhere!!! I was in my A6 cruising at 82 MPH. That FKR led me perfect=thank GOD it was not a "real" gun. I am telling you, I do not freak out as a rule and have been in some tough spots but just driving along in rural CT, you do not expect it. I put the flashers on, drove over the hill out of range from whatever nutjob pulled the trigger, and hit the grass. Most of the glass was on my lap so I grabbed my snowbrush out of the trunk and started sweeping. My brother heard the impact and said wtf was that??? I expected to see a big hole somewhere in my interior(exit path) or blood but I guess it was my lucky day! I called 911, told them I had been shot at and my location. I waited for 30 minutes. After nobody showed up I bolted to find an Audi dealer who could fix my new security problem. New country in Greenwich fkn blew me off!!, Wallingford Audi Service was a friggin roach motel with no clue.?? I drove in my pile of glass to Audi/ Porsche of Fairfield and a Service rep named Chris rolled out the red carpet!!! I got a loaner and they are going to fix my window (next to my head) and my small oil leak. Nice way to start the week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mel, I thought about that.........and I am sure that I would have received better treatment from the dealers if I was driving a fairly new 911??? go figure? The dealer quoted me a price of 61 dollars for the glass.............I was thinking=how much for bulletproof? Steve

POST 4Original post

Are you telling me that you called 911 and told them you had been sniped at on the freeway and had your window blown out and NO ONE CAME for 30 minutes? Come on! Did they call you back and give you an ETA or give you any instructions? I'm finding that incredulous in the light of all the horror stories out there of snipers shooting at cars. I really find it hard to grasp that you called and no police showed up? There's got to be more to this than what we've heard so far. Any incident involving shooting at cars on a freeway should have brought down a whole herd of state patrol cars, cordoning off of onramps etc...... That's not normally something that's treated as a ho-hum sort of 911 report. If this thing happened as you said it did...you should follow up with the department having jurisdiction over that sort of incident (State Patrol) and find out why you didn't get any response to your call. From strictly a liability standpoint, think of what sort of vulnerability a department would have if they ignored a 911 call like that and the next motorist that came along was killed or seriously injured. Something's got to be missing here.....

POST 6Original post

Probably. I had a handgun stolen from me once in CA. They didn't even send anyone out to take a report! Did it over the phone! IT WAS A LOADED HANDGUN!!! Sheesh. Glad you are OK!!! Sort of surprised at the non-cop response. I should be shocked and outraged but.. well.. unless they can arrest someone right there, get some good chace video or write some revenue generating tickets... I figured it's a lower priority in the queue.

POST 7Original post

Sorry to hear about this and I'm very glad that you are OK - this world is getting crazier by the day.

POST 8Original post

WTF is right, that's ridiculous. At least I now know if I want to go snipe cars on a highway I can head to rural CT, setup camp, and have a go with no fear of the law. I'm glad to hear it was only your glass that got hit.

POST 9Original post

We need flesh seeking missiles as standard equipment ... the space under the front hood can be put to good use. Controls on the GPS touch screen. Or maybe an attached machine gun on the sunroof ... in times of crisis open the sunroof (hell, tilt it up as a shield!) and fire away !! Then climb down, buckle up and continue the peaceful country drive ! Yup ... that's IT guys ... the next big thing. Target audience, downtown LA and ... what was that ... ah, rural CT. Lovely world eh ?

POST 10Original post

I found some switches for the missile option.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I waited for a half an hour. I expected at least a state trooper. The shooter will do it again to somebody with more patience and time. Then he or she will get caught! I am surprised I never received at least a follow phone call! I will make aphone report today. Steve

POST 12Original post

Damn Steve! That is unimaginable. I can only imagine how scary that was. I could care less if it was one car or the other, what is good to know is that you are ok. BB gun or regular gun doesn't matter. This could have been very tragic and I (we) can say that it is great to hear it was "just" as broken piece of glass and not something more serious. Glad to hear you are ok, but whomever pulled that trigger needs to be stopped.

POST 13Original post

Others have said it, but I'll repeat it - the lack of police response amazes me - I've driven that stretch and am amazed by how it's usually crawling with state troopers trawling for speeders. Obviously they have no interest in investigating a real crime and want the easy money of a speeding ticket. Pisses me off... can't throw a stone without hitting a patrol car there, but they didn't respond yo your call. I'm incredulous. I'm glad that you're okay.

POST 14Original post

Ccall the local news. All 911 calls are taped, so they cannot deny it. It has been rather slow here in the NY area, after last weeks small plane incident, I am sure they could use the story. Personally, it is not a surprise to me at all. Every person I know has had an unpleasant experience with a CT trooper on the Merritt. These are the type of people that pull you over at the bottom of a hill, or wait just past an on ramp.... Sorry to hear about your window and glad your ok. I think the Audi service is becoming an issue nationally. Brother in law has an S4 and I turned down an ordered RS4 for basically the same reason (dealer still has it, if anyone is interested).

POST 15Original post

I agree....media attention would be great...I can't believe nobody came! Must be Audi A6 hate week or something...someone busted my passenger front window and stole my GPS when I parked in a nice area of Manhattan on Sunday during the day. thanks, Amir

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So being the responsible citizen, I call the Bethany CT state trooper barracks and start by saying " I would like to report a shooting". The trooper answering the phone instructs me to hold for a "desk sargeant. After 14 minutes on hold, I gave up. Good thing I was not some cracked up nutcase who just hijacked the Govenors private jet??? The media might be a valid option............I do not know about you guys, but I do not have time for this crap! I want my car back with bullet proof glass and some james bond countermeasures like the flesh seeking missile! The only problem is the amount of wildlife along the Merrit=IT is a hunter's paradise! Steve

POST 17Original post

I'm sorry... did you say you got shot at? DAMN! Crap... well, next time a highway patrol pulls me over for driving erratically, I have an excuse...

POST 18Original post

Yikes. I would have been screeming like a junior high girl...

POST 20Original post

WOW, that is truely incredible! Glad no one was hurt!

POST 21Original post

How do you know it was a bb or pellet gun? Seems to me unlikely that a pellet would have enough energy to shatter glass in a vehicle.

POST 22Original post

someone's Audi A4 was broken in and GPS was taken in a company parking lot in jersey city. funny part is, there's security guide and 2 cops just around the corner...

POST 23Original post

Hey, you called 911 and they answered, but didn't show up. In California, that would be progress. Last 3 times I have called 911 on my cell, it's just busy. Twice I was calling to report grass fires on the road -- no worry, they'll notice the smoke when it grows a few acres. The third time though, I actually needed help, as my friend had fallen and broken his collar bone, and he was way too heavy for me to deal with, so I needed an ambulance crew. After 3 or 4 tries to 911 it became clear THAT wasn't going to work. I ended up calling my wife, in a different city, and had her call the fire department of the city I was in, and tell them to send some folks to get my buddy to the hospital, cause he busted something. About 90 seconds after I hang up, I hear sirens. About 3 minutes after that, the paramedics arrive, WITH an ambulance. 2 units. In about 5 minutes -- less time than I had already wasted trying to call 911 four times. Then about 20 minutes into the episode, my wife calls. It seems that the local fire dept. called her back, to make sure everything was ok and that the fire dept made it to the incident. Nice to live in a city that isn't bankrupt or crime ridden. But forget calling 911 and even getting to the point of waiting for someone to show...

POST 24Original post

Had the same happen to me in the UK - driving through Corby (yep no surprises there that someone took a shot at me!) I was in a VW GTi, and was feeling good having just had a new lowered suspension fitted that morning. Car was looking HOT. Same deal, driving along and BANG - groken glass flies eveywhere - in my case from the headlight on the drivers side - no cars ahead of me on the road so I'm thinking WTF?? Pulled over and checked the front of the car - smashed headlight and a nice neat round hole in the lip of the hood - straight through the metal!! I'm staring at this bullet hole - and it's still not sinking in.... Eventually reality bites, and I realize I shouldn't be standing around at this spot - so I drive away quickly. Had to have the hood leaded and pulled to get the damage repaired - plus new headlight of course. 6 inches higher and it could have been very different story!

POST 27Original post

I don't like this thread. Too freaky. Having just said that, my sister was driving down 280 here in CA when the same type of thing happened. She called 911 and did get some response from the CHP. They examined the car and told her it was a rock. Except for the fact that the passenger and driver window were shattered, no damage to the windshield, and shards of lead in her scalp, it sounded at least plausible that a rock could ricochet off a roadside radar enforcement sign. Truly unbelievable. They let her go on her merry way where she then went to the hospital by herself. Glad to hear you're OK

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Both Windows!!!!!! Lead??? Oh my! Once out of range around the corner I searched the car for the exit path. I found nothing so I assume it was a marble or BB?? SIDE windows do not just shatter by themselves!! If it happens to you and you actually realize what is going on, stay straight, duck, and get out of range. Despite Hollywood's depiction of sparks and deflection, cars absorb lead at an amazing rate. Anybody who has experimented with this combination knows. Be safe! Steve

POST 29Original post

DON'T YOU GUYS GET IT????? The cops are only there to give you a speeding/wrong turn and parking tickets.....in that way they can be cool without endangering themselfs.... When they are really needed like in your case....a freakin' shooting!! You think BB gun, but it could have been a hunting riffle with a small caliber bullit!!! If it would have hit you.....just imagine....and where were the cops??? Right putting you on hold, because they are in the middle of a dangerous speeding ticket process.......give me an F'ing break!! Glad you are okay and that the damage was relatively cheap!!! Hope the ****ers gun blows up in his face the next time!!
