Suggestion
The last "real" flood was Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, so I'd hardly describe Houston as "the city to avoid for used cars." Did the Atlantic coastline not just sustain damages from Hurricane Ernesto this past August?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am being offered the Turbo below for about 58k and am trying to figure out if something is wrong because even though it has almost 60k miles now it still seems like a decent deal. Does anything look fishy with this carfax?

I will do a PPI but I just wanted to post the carfax in case anyone saw something that jumps out. I noticed that it went from TX to CA and I don't know if it is easy to get a car from TX to CA after there has been some type of damage.
Looks clean, man - once a car goes to auction, it can end up anywhere - that doesn't mean anything.
I agree that a Carfax doesn't mean everything, and you need a PPI, but it's a good way to weed out the junk.
This looks good.
I had a car that was posessed, got hit 6 time in 3.5 years, one accident was 23,000 in damage. CLEAN carfax, I look at them when I buy but never trust it at all. It could weed one out before spending on a PPI.
From my eBay shopping experiences, it seems that used Porsches (and other "exotics") are slightly cheaper in Texas and Florida... must be all of that oil money and blue hair inheritance. So it seems reasonable that the CA dealer went to a TX auction... when I bought my Jaguar 2 years ago, I later discovered that the NC dealer had gone to FL to buy it (at auction). So it's common. Just beware of cars from Houston or anywhere else where flooding is a concern.
Otherwise, the Carfax looks normal and I wish you good luck!
Michael
Media. Pictures of the handful of flooded cars make the best story.
Sure, if you were stupid enough to leave your car parked next to a stream or decide you could drive through a flooded intersection, you flood your car. This wasn't Katrina. Very very easily avoided. Your assumption seems to be that all cars from Houston are risky. Nonsense. Even the most basic PPI finds water damage.
BS dude, just two days ago I drove past tens of flooded cars trying to get home. I had to abandon my Turbo a mile from the house to avoid the same fate. PPI required for any car purchase.
Media sensationalism and completely overblown. Houston is NOT a flood city. Sudden heavy downpours can temporarily flood any low-lying streets in any city. I'm a native Houstonian, and the only time I've ever been affected by flood waters was Hurricane Alicia in
1983
. Katrina wasn't even anywhere near Houston. The last "real" flood was Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, so I'd hardly describe Houston as "the city to avoid for used cars." Did the Atlantic coastline not just sustain damages from Hurricane Ernesto this past August? That's like saying beware of all cars from Los Angeles due to potential hidden damages from earthquakes, mudslides, or bullets.
Yeah. Like you would be so stupid to turn your Turbo into a submarine. You aren't. Sure, a few idiots drive their cars in deep street flooding and get flooded out. Not many. We notice the fools who do.
Think about what MJBird993 said. Avoid cars from Houston because they might have been flooded at some point. I have never had a car flooded in the 30 years I have lived here. His logic makes as much sense as saying we should avoid buying cars which have been in Las Vegas because they might have been overheated [response to Dell's wagging finger].
Utter nonsense.
If you are worried it sounds too good a deal to be true, I don't think it is. I've been looking at used Turbo prices lately, and high mileage turbos *do* drop below $60k. There are a handful on ebay right now.
The best piece of advice I can give has already been stated: PPI.
Good luck!
Most of the ebay Porsches for sale in Houston are from brokers/dealers who are getting their cars at auction and having them shipped to Houston. The chances that they're flood cars is miniscule at best.
Buy the damn car, then post pics. That's the way it works here!
So, uh, you are disagreeing with me? I can't quite tell.
Of course now, I did not say what you said that I said. I will admit, on re-reading my original post, that maybe I stated it a bit too strongly. However, you do have to agree that there
is
occasional flooding in parts of Houston, and even nice shiny Porsches can be victims of this, and it would only be prudent to be careful.
Heck, I live near (and work in) Raleigh NC. Hundreds of miles from the coast, we get blasted by hurricanes but not flooded. No, we get flooded from ordinary storms. Just down the road from my work is a low-lying area of town, and I saw a car that was parked at an office building. The owner was probably working, busy, when the storm came through and literally floated his/her car up on a bank. It was covered in mud when I saw it the next day, and undoubtedly a total write-off. Should you be worried that any car from NC is a flood victim? No, that would be silly, but it does happen and you should be aware of it.
And didn't they evacuate the entire city just last year because of a hurricane coming toward it? Don't tell me you guys don't get bad weather.
Michael
PPI only way to go. My dealer spotted RMS issue, loose trace arms and bent tie rod. Few thousand dollars worth of work but the garage I bought it from got all those fixed at no costs so I really saved myself a few thousands but spending about $200 Cnd.
