Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The bad news is he did try and start it after it got home and heard the clanging...Broken Timing chain, dropped valve (IMSB was replaced) but who knows at this point.
Leading evidence: 'Replace )' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'timing chain broke' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean roller' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It's a shame he burned the car down on his test drive...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought my car for $4500 as roller with the intent of doing an ls swap but i fixed it for $150 so now i just drive it.
Might have a fair deal on a very clean roller. Owner spent $17K on repairs and preventative (IMSB) maintenance etc. I'll have all the documentation later today.
His son was driving it and it just lost power and chk light came on. Never tried restarting it and had it towed.
Dads over it and wants it gone...
Correction...Car lost power, Check engine light came on and he shut it down. May not be the worst case scenario for a $5K investment!
The owner just happens to be flying over to my island tomorrow morning, must be fate!
In order of easy to hard:
1. Rebuild.
2. Wait for ttt123's wide body kit to come out and go to town.
3. Audi 2.7TT swap. Bolts up right to the bell housing.
https://audisrs.com/porsche-boxster-...0.html#p754387
4. Tesla swap
Good luck with it! I hope it works out for you - I think many of these cases are overblown by the shops that service the cars. Did he have it towed back to the shop that did $17k worth of "service"? What did they say? Did they try to jack him for more $$ ? Could be a great score or a money pit...

What is the condition of the rest of the car? If the rest of the car is perfect, you can get a brand new short block from Porsche for $7K. Jake Raby can build you a custom 4 Liter killer street motor for $22k. Even with that type of spend, if the rest of the car is perfect and you buy it for $5k you would have a tremendous car for less than $30k.
Just bought it for $4K. The car is in really good shape inside and out. A little wear on the drivers seat. He's spent $17K over the past 3-4 years on it and planned to keep it for ever.
The bad news is he did try and start it after it got home and heard the clanging...Broken Timing chain, dropped valve (IMSB was replaced) but who knows at this point.
I don't have 4.0 money! $7K short block + heads being rebuilt. What else?
the previous owner slid off a track and landed on the motor. I bought the car and shipped it east off a few pics. For the cost i was willing to take a chance. I just had to pull the pan and prep the cracks and broken pieces as it was only in the skirting. So, $150 for a real good tig rental and a friend thats a real good tig welder and i was back i business.
That's the plan, ships out today and should be here next week. Never good when the PO say he tried starting it and shut down because he heard metal parts crashing around...
808: Columbus took a chance right? Yeah I know he was bank-rolled by the Queen of Spain, but what the hey...Nothing ventured...as they say. Did you order the Durametric or buy it locally? If ordered when do you expect it? Heck, I'm getting excited for you!!!
$200 is a great deal for a Durametric - You got very lucky to find one on eBay! I looked for about two years before finally breaking down and buying mine from Durametric (I had a CEL so it made sense). What, no AC in your garage?

I ordered one of each, and have already received them.
Chriss tool is a unique design.
I like how it is hollow inside so you can see the seal and crank better.
In my opinion, Diamond Blues will last longer if used repeatedly. (like in a shop)
It could hold up better to being tapped with a hammer if necessary.
Theyre both SO much cheaper than the factory tool that I dont mind owning both.
Damn, I didn't remember how much needed to be done just to drop the motor...Spent all day putting parts back on that don't pertain to the motor.
Fluids today and hopefully we have ignition and lift off!
Fricken 8mm socket fell off and now lives somewhere on top of the block. I spent an hour fishing around with a magnet and mirror with no luck. Bad **** happens when you try and rush things!
Rushing is never good! It's amazing how quickly something can go wrong (like dropping a socket on top of the engine) and then any time you "saved" by rushing quickly turns into a side production to fix your mistake... My biggest was using a little too much sealer on my cam cover...
turned into about a week of extra work to remedy... no fun! Make sure you use the "Jake Raby Technique" on starting the car for the first time - multiple starts/shutdowns to let the oil pressure build up. Even with this, the engine will be quite noisy for a couple minutes - don't freak out, it'll quiet down...
My window has closed for the use of my warehouse. It's in a crate under the staircase, blocked with 40 750lb bales of aluminum...The PO tried to restart it and I'm sure caused a lot more damage. Not high on my priority list right now!
