I know I'll be sacrificing my LSD, and I know the output shaft going to the front of the gearbox will just spin away in use but does anyone know of anyone that has done the above?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I have a '99 C2 and the 2nd gear syncro has failed, the is still driveable but I have to double clutch going down the gears. A rebuild isn't really an option as I can't have the car off the road for that long so I'll be putting a used gearbox in it. My question is would a C4 gearbox be useable in my C2? I know I'll be sacrificing my LSD, and I know the output shaft going to the front of the gearbox will just spin away in use but does anyone know of anyone that has done the above? It's a slim chance I know but the 4WD gearbox is much cheaper and more plentiful around me. Many thanks, Liam.

POST 2Original post

My guess is that you will be fine. There are plenty of people converting their C4 and C4S to be rear wheel drive only. They are using the same trans. So you should be fine.

POST 4Original post

Doesn't the C4 have a different tunnel? I think the C4 shell is stiffer. Not sure if the area where the transmission is located is any different.

POST 5Original post

You'll be fine, you just have a spare output shaft off the nosecone, spinning freely not driving anything.
