Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
The grommet above is likely for replacing an existing, damaged grommet.
Leading evidence: 'Replace existing, damaged grommet' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Not sure if the rubber mats have velcro circles on the back, but my car uses retainers like these:

I think I will just use the velcro from the carpet mats.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Those rings sandwich the mat from each side and clip together.
They then fasten to these twist clips that screw into the floor carpet.
Having said that, my '99 uses the Velcro style.
Mine had the Velcro type and never stayed in place. I bought new aftermarket mats and they attach to the chair rails with a strap and a seat belt type of connector. This works much better for me.
OK, I knew I had to be missing something. Just bought the rubber mats from Sunset Porssche online and they suggested these. I think I will just use the velcro from the carpet mats. Thanks, guys.
Not sure if the rubber mats have velcro circles on the back, but my car uses retainers like these:
These are actually the 997 version, but work fine on 996 as well. The 996 ones were round instead of cross shaped.
The velcro-like hooks do wear out on them... I have two that hold fine, and two that are worthless. Need to order some more.
The rubber one indeed have the velcro circles, that's why I decided to use them instead. The parts I got sent would require making a hole thru the mat if I understand rightly?
I think the parts you received are just incorrect for that mat style. I don't think the intention is that you modifiy the mats by making a hole in them. The grommet above is likely for replacing an existing, damaged grommet.
If you don't have the part shown above that threads into the carpet, you will have to find the correct spot to screw them in by feeling around on the carpet and thread them in.
That makes sense to me. I pretty much concluded they were wrong but posted in case I was missing something. Anybody need 8 of the style I was sent? Pay to ship and they are yours.
