Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First, a little background...I have a 2003 C2 with roughly 55,000 miles. When I purchased the car several years ago, it came with one of the original keys. About 4 years ago, I decided I needed an extra key. I took the car and my key to a dealer to get a key made and programmed...ouch! Fast forward to this past March. The car had been stored for a few months, and when I went to start it up, I found the car battery had died. I got a new battery and everything worked just fine. Everything, but the key - the new one. When I press the button, the red light comes on, but nothing happens. I replaced the battery, but no change. I looked at the manual and searched through the forum for a fix. I tried the process in the manual - unlock the car and depress the button. No luck. I've tried a couple of other fixes to no avail. The key that came with the car works just fine. I called the dealer and they want me to bring the car and both keys in to reprogram at a cost of $250. I'm hoping Rennlist has a fix. I'm having a hard time seeing that I need to reprogram a key that is relatively new. Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

My fob dies and $520 later I have a new fob and programing. Look at the board inside for any obvious solder splits.
