The dealer assumed full responsibility and this time threadlocked the bolts and three techs checked the torque specs upon completion.

Either way, after a week or two I'm going to re-check the bolts.

The only thing I can figure is the numbskull who reassembled my car forgot to tighten the bolts!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, so I drop my car off for the repair of the RMS and IMS (it was leaking pretty bad). I get the car back last week and everything seems fine. I leave Target this evening at a leisurely pace 1st, 2nd, 3rd...POW. I coast into a gas station parking lot and jack the car up. The bolts that connect the trans to the shafts completely backed out and are still hanging from the shaft. Of course not only am I pissed, but it's 9PM so the dealership is closed and I have to sit and wait for roadside assistance. Did I mention the wife and kids were there with me...mix PMS with RMS and the **** hits the fan!
Check out the pic. The only thing I can figure is the numbskull who reassembled my car forgot to tighten the bolts!
I'll keep you guys posted on this saga.

Wow, that really sucks! I would be kicking some ***, and the idiot who didn't do the job right should be duly punished. The amount of money they charge per hour...something like this should NOT happen! It could have been worse, and could have caused an accident.
I hope not much damage has been done.

One of the first things that I would ask the Dealer is how they intend to compensate you for the major inconvenience they caused you and your wife by their sheer incompetence. In the right set of circumstnces their error could have had catastophic consequencies. You were lucky. The mimimum I would ask is that my next major service be done gratis.
Any time I have taken a half shaft off for any reason I always recheck the torque after a few hours of driving. Twice, I've had one come loose even though it was torqued to spec.
So, here's the update: The dealership received the car this morning (10:30AM) via a flatbed through Porsche Roadside Assistance. They took apart the passenger side, put locktite on both sides and reassembled both sides. They test drove and then re-checked. After that a flatbed picked up my car and they dropped it back off to me at one of my business locations before 5PM.
I'm happy that they were able to turn everything around within 1 day. According to the service writer, it seems as if the mechanic and shop manager got their butts chewed by the head honcho of the dealership! The shop writer was very apologetic and handled everything very well.
Did it sound like a loud bang?
Did the car rev free but not move or accelerate?
Did the car shift normal but the car just free reved?
If thats the case it's happened 2 times since my RMS and clutch job, about 1 to 2 weeks after each fix.
First time the service mgt blamed it on a spring on the shifter..
Now I think I know what the real cause is.
The service mgt was helpful with taking care of the problem at hand by getting me a flat bed.
Flat bed took 4 hours this time and I was not in a great area of town
Shot the hole day.
it usally maks a lot of noise beofre they come off and they are just loose. no bang to happen
evan your problm sounds like the shifter cabel came out of the bracket (ie the spring clip wasnt clipped)
Are they supossed to use NEW bolts when they reassemble everthing ? i just had my RMS redone and the parts list had a list of Torx screws (4) 6x35 (3) 6x20 Screws (8)10x 50. I then drove about 450 miles without a problem.
That was done by the dealer, maybe by one of their "techs". You probably be in better hands of a good independent Porsche shop. The dealer is usually the worst place to do any work that is not warranty related.
There was a "bang" and the trans spun freely. The car lost all power but otherwise no other problems. The dealer said that nothing else was affected.
The dealer assumed full responsibility and this time threadlocked the bolts and three techs checked the torque specs upon completion. We'll see what happens. Either way, after a week or two I'm going to re-check the bolts.
Drive shaft bolts do not need to be replaced after they have been removed. The 6x35s are the new encapsulated case half screws, the 3 6x20 are the new intermediate shaft screws but Im not sure what the 8 are.
yeah.....you bend the tabs to take it out of the bracket when removing the ttrans and when you go back in you have to make sure they lock into place somtimes rebending the tabs. alot of times the tabs break and you need to saftey wire the cable in

PTEC The 10X50 have got to be BIG bolts for the drive shaft! Don't ya think??
There are 8 bolts so they are most likely for the flywheel and if there were 6 or 12 they would probably be for the drive-shafts. Depending on the model year and transmission type the drive shaft bolts vary in length from 48.4mm-50mm-61mm-65mm.
Listen to this after I declined the same deal in under the same circumstances as 1999C2Cab where he tricked a lot of of people of of their money without sending any product on Rennlist...

I can't believe someone will go out of their way to try to ruin someone's reputation just for not feeling comfortable on sending all the $$ to someone who he's never met before for a product he's never seen (nor were there pictures of)
