Over the past several months Id been looking for a super clean Cayman.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I finally bought my first Porsche over this past weekend.
I had been shopping Caymans, Boxsters, and 911s over the past several months.
Then I found this

Im loving this car. It is a blast to drive. Im thoroughly enjoying the driving experience. Im not sure precisely what is in store regarding modifications (if any) but, I look forward to learning more about the car and community.

Thanks guys!
Thank you!
I was told that everything on the car is factory. Is there a resource available that can de-code the VIN and perhaps get a print-out of the options on this 996?
Mike
Welcome aboard! Great looking 996, love the colour / rims combination.
Do you still have the original options sticker on the underside of the frunk lid? If so there are various sites that will decode the options codes - or post a pic of it here and folk will interpret it for you
Congratulations and welcome!
Look under the front hood for the options sticker. If it's missing there is an online VIN lookup. I don't remember the site, but try this one
http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Porsche
. Otherwise a google search should find it.
Great looking 996. It seems like a well optioned car, supple leather, alumalook, 3 spoke wheel, etc...
That combination should hold up very well over the years, plus a single owner car since 99? That's getting harder and harder to find. Nice score!
No need to start with the VIN. Open your frunk, look up on the lid near the latch and you will see a white sticker. Near the bottom of the sticker there are multiple 3 character codes. May start with C02 or something. Get all those option codes and go here;
https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/option-codes/996/
Describes all your factory options pretty well.
Thanks guys! Much appreciated!
Yes. I'll get a pic of that today.
Cool. Thanks I'll check it out.
Yes, very well cared for. Dealer serviced since new. It has 90K miles.
I was personally a little hesitant due to the miles but, after some research it appears that these cars are good for long after 100K assuming they've been well maintained.
Yes, definitely. Will do.
If I do anything...it will be simple...new radio...and perhaps intake and exhaust. Nothing crazy.
Yep, that's for sure!
Mike

I'm a little confused with regards to the model...996 110. Is 110 a coupe? Also, someone has written '52' next to the 110? What does '52' mean? In addition, the 18" wheels are said to be 993 turbo wheels yet I can't ever recall a 993 turbo with these wheels...are the wheels correct to the code?
Thanks,
Mike
You are very lucky to have the LSD - a very desirable option.
The turbo look wheels are similar to the Turbo look 2 wheels on my car. PO may have changed the original wheels. My 996 also came from the factory with different wheels (originally had Lt Carrera) than when I got it.
^^^
Thank you!
Haha, will do!
As a 'noob' I would have thought ALL 911's came with an LSD from the factory??? I'm shocked to learn otherwise but, I'm definitely glad to have it.
Regarding the wheels...that's interesting. Assuming that the car's story is correct, perhaps, that is what happened in this case. I'm definitely familiar with the wheels in your pic as those are the wheels I associate with the awesome 993 Turbo.
Either way, I like the wheels that are currently on the car.
Mike
I think Porsche switched from LSD to PSM (Porsche Stability Management) early in the 996 production. I may be corrected here, but PSM doesn't work well with LSD. PSM can correct oversteer that could lead to the "tail wagging the dog" (going offroad *** first).
Yes. Some later years of 993's did come with the same wheels.
If you look for part numbers on various parts of the 996, you'll notice quite a few 993 part numbers carried over.
Those grouped options have confused me a bit since I bought my car. I have 220, 222, 224. The 220 and 224 are pretty clear, but the 222 option escapes what it does to the car. I know the 224 applies differential rear braking based on the chassis sensors to fix oversteer(or try), so I think the 222 and 224 are kind of the early version of PSM. But darned if I can find a decent explanation for option 222.
Rdrcr,
I am in the same boat as you, been looking at mostly Caymans, 996s and 997.1s for close to a year now and am having a very hard time deciding. What made you go with this particular beauty?
Cool. Good to know. Thank you.
There is a traction control switch on the dash (not PSM). Hopefully, that switch defeats the TC system.
Over the past several months Id been looking for a super clean Cayman. After some time, I even expanded my search to Boxsters. I hadn't been picky with regard to colors, or options but, the car had to be clean and free of any mechanical and cosmetic defects...basically I was looking for are car that someone truly loved and cared for. I found a few. But, sadly, on those particular vehicles I was unable to negotiate an acceptable selling price.
While searching for Caymans and Boxsters I expanded my search to include 911's in the same price range. Sadly, the majority of the 911's in my price range were unacceptable but, there were a couple that were really, really nice and this one, was one of the really nice 911s I saw and drove.
Basically I chose this car because I liked the overall appearance and condition of the car. 1 owner, good service history, and an acceptable price.
Mike
'99s and 40th AE are the only ones you can get factory LSD if I remember correctly.
Nice car OP. A lot of money for the ride.
