Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I tried pulling mine out and spraying with contact cleaner but it didn't help.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was on a drive at night when it got dark about 2 weeks ago. I turned on the headlights and all was fine until I turned on the high beams and then the lights went completely out. I then pulled to the side of the road and waited but nothing happened. I turned the car off and on a few times and finally they came on after switching them on/off. Now the headlights dont work at all at any time. Is this a fuse issue or something else? I have an appt at the dealer but dont want to go there if its something small. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Possibly a fuse (easy to check), possibly a ground (not as easy to check/track down) and possibly the light switch (fairly easy/cheap to replace). Start with the fuse, then the switch and lastly the ground(s)... Good luck

POST 3Original post

If they eventually turned in its not a fuse. It may be a stickey relay but most likely its the switch. They fail regularly.

POST 4Original post

" Now the headlights don’t work at all at any time." ^^^ ... Still possible the fuse popped (though not likely). It's the easiest thing to check (fuse panel just forward of drivers door) so worth a look... I second the switch...

POST 5Original post

It is also possible to be the ignition switch. I had mine go bad a couple of years ago, and it made the headlights intermittent.

POST 6Original post

Ive replied to this issue a few times. Take out the light switch, spray the crap out of it with an electrical contact cleaner, work the switch through all positions multiple times and reinstall. I had the same issue and after doing the above it has been perfect since. The switch looked pristine but the insides get dirty over time.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is great. Thanks, guys. Checking the fuse now and going down the list.

POST 9Original post

I would put $ on the switch as well. I tried pulling mine out and spraying with contact cleaner but it didn't help. Got one from RockAuto and they've worked perfectly since. Product link
