Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

If the owner had the IMS and RMS replaced, there should be documentation, but don't go with "Yea, I'm pretty sure they replaced it at some point in time".

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Unique negotiating tactic: "Here, this is how much I have. Take my money." I think I used that often to buy candy back when I was 4 years old. Just giving you a hard time. $20,000 should get you into a high mileage C4S. I'm curious as to why not a 2002 model? Basically the exact same car, but without the MOST stereo system, which makes the stereo more expensive (generally) to replace. For that reason, the 2002 models are actually slightly more desirable. Good luck with the search!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thank you for the feedback. It is as always with desired cars, a learning curve to figure out all the ins and outs. I chose 2003, for absolutely no reason other then it being a later model. But I will heed your advice on the 2002 option, its good to know. Also, can i get any enlightenment about the IMS and RMS concerns? I feel like there is no real way to tell if the car has issues without taking it in etc etc etc, and when your car shopping it is a real challenge to do that.

POST 4Original post

Side note Nelson - Porsche didn't make the C4S in years 1999 thru 2001. RE: IMS and RMS - those are well known issues with the M96 engine. If the owner had the IMS and RMS replaced, there should be documentation, but don't go with "Yea, I'm pretty sure they replaced it at some point in time". Have it in writing! Also, a thorough PPI from a respected Porsche shop should be able to give you a decent breakdown of things that will need to be replaced.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

and the M65 engine was throughout the 996 years?

Sorry, that was a typo... it's the M96 engine.

POST 8Original post

Quite a challenge. At first I was thinking option 2 because I like the supple leather far more than the regular. However.... if you aren't planning on putting a lot of miles on it. Option 1 will hold it's value (and increase probably) far more than Option 2 just based on the 1-owner and lower miles. Can just budget for the clutch and IMS/RMS at your discretion since that'll absolutely bump the value up when you go to sell. But if you are wanting a daily driver to put more than 10k miles a year on, I'd go with Option 2 if it was me.
