) for my 996 C2 NB coupe that would allow me to run a "square set up" with same size rear wheels on the front.
Leading evidence: 'Run "square' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run "square' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. On a side note, if other people would be interested in front fender flares, I can see about producing a run of them.

3) I'm familiar with the benefits of running square stance on other cars (E46 m3), but what benefits/disadvantages would you expect on a 996?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been toying around with developing a set of tasteful front fender flares a la the 997.2 GT3 RS (
https://cdn1.evo.co.uk/sites/evo/fil...?itok=NOYmzNYv
) for my 996 C2 NB coupe that would allow me to run a "square set up" with same size rear wheels on the front.
Excuse my lack of knowledge here but I'm wondering if you guys can help me with a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to through searching.
1) Will rear wheels fit on the front without hitting any hard points/suspension?
2) With identical rear wheels on the front, would the track width be equal between front and rear? Or is there a chance that the front would end up being a wider track?
3) I'm familiar with the benefits of running square stance on other cars (E46 m3), but what benefits/disadvantages would you expect on a 996?
Thanks a lot. On a side note, if other people would be interested in front fender flares, I can see about producing a run of them. I've done so in the past and have sold parts on Pelican Parts.
Cheers,
Andrew
Me thinks this thread should go nowhere. There is a lot of math that went into stagering the tires. I would imagine a square stance would really though the ballance off of a rear engine car.
Millions of dollars in R&D and lots of math for a staggered wheel setup?!!! Now that's hilarious!
Yup! This forum should stick to threads about bore scoring and IMSB questions! They are fun.
Thanks for the input guys, especially

So the reason I'm interested in this is because I feel the turn-in is slow on our cars stock and the front often feels floaty. I do realize there are other methods of addressing this but was just asking what impact a square stance would have out of curiosity. Also, not gonna lie, having some flares on the front with wider wheels could look pretty cool.
It looks like having rear wheels on the front will not work, but there are benefits to achieving a "square stance" through widening front track width (either with spacers or a lower offset wheels) as it allows for better turn in and improved stability. Some examples of this are the Guntherwerks 400R
https://www.motor1.com/reviews/27930...r-first-drive/
which has a square stance and was set up by Joey Seely (Emotion Engineering), a former Porsche Factory Race car suspension guru. Also, the 2019 GT3 RS goes beyond having a square stance and actually has a wider front track than rear

I am guessing the downside to doing this is poorer turning radius and is probably why Porsche uses this type of set up on track-focused/race cars as opposed to their standard cars. Any other thoughts are appreciated.
I think you're probably misunderstanding how track width is measured; it's to the centerline of the wheel, not the outside. So a car that has wider rear tires than front tires will frequently have a wider front track, since the outside faces of the tires sit roughly the same width apart. For instance, if you look at that 2019 GT3 RS and do the actual math based on the tracks and tire widths, you'll find that the outside faces of the rear tires are about an inch farther apart than the outside faces of the front tires, even though the front track is an inch wider.
I think you have a long way to go to convince people that adding a bunch of width and weight to the front of a 911 will make it look or drive better
