Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'big bearing engine' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'big bearing engine' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean around the rms' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Saw an IMS/RMS video where they changed the bolts, but, I cannot find part #s.

Did the same around the RMS when I replaced the seal on it.

Suggestion
did some selective cleaning around the RMS with brake cleaner and a fine brass brush.

Suggestion
I dont want to detract from his offer, but the one Chris (MA) offers is less money, and has holes so you can use fasteners to progressively and evenly tighten the seal to depth.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there starting the clutch/RMS job hopefully this weekend and realized I very likely need a RMS install tool.
Is there anyone out there that has one to sell or rent (or lend)?
Thx

A Rennlister whose handle is Chris(MA) 3D prints a tool that works well, setting the seal at the critical depth without drama. I think it ran around $35 ish. Not the tool you want to start a professional shop with but it works well for a DIY mechanic. I'd recommend it. Maybe drop him a private message?
I had these made by the machinist that does work for us. Correct depth and roll pin hole. I have $55 into them and will sell for that plus shipping. Have 9-10 available.

wow, that's clean! did you change the engine case half bolts when you did your work? Saw an IMS/RMS video where they changed the bolts, but, I cannot find part #s. yours look new…
Didn't change the bolts. did some selective cleaning around the RMS with brake cleaner and a fine brass brush. Did the same around the RMS when I replaced the seal on it. Turned out to be a big bearing engine. This is what it looked like when I got it apart.
was that oil on the IMS flange from the RMS leak? did you do IMS as well?
BTW, Chris(MA) expedited the shipping for me and the RMS tool arrived today! What a great guy! And, a nice looking part!
I was not sure, but believe that it was from the RMS. I have a big bearing engine, notice the 22MM nut on the IMS. I did put a new Porsche seal on the IMS flange and pulled the seal off the bearing. I did a video and oil was running out of the bearing when the seal came off.
I ordered one of each, and have already received them.
Chris’s 3D printed tool is a unique design.
I like how it is hollow inside so you can see the seal and crank better.
In my opinion, Diamond Blue’s will last longer if used repeatedly. (like in a shop)
It could hold up better to being tapped with a hammer if necessary.
They’re both SO much cheaper than the factory tool that I don’t mind owning both.
They are both going in my IMS/RMS Toolkit:
Looking to replace my RMS soon. Does anyone still have their version of a tool available? Or are there any plans out there where I can build my own?
Thanks!
I bought both designs just a couple of months ago.
Send them both (Chris(MA) and Diamond Blue) a private message.
Take a look at my post just above yours to see my thoughts about both designs.
Yes, I still have some of them. My cost on them was $55 which i will sell for that + shipping. I had the machinist that does work for us do them on his mill.
A question regarding the rms seal itself. I was under the impression that the replacement seal was an o-ring. I've ordered a new seal and it looks like the u shaped seal with a blue plastic piece as pictured in one of the posts by diamondblue above. So to insert this seal, you place it on the tool as shown and then insert to the correct depth? I'm not sure where I came up with the o ring idea but i guess this will be pretty straight forward once I have it all apart. Any diy showing this step by step?
