I have a 2001 C2; just replaced the fuel filter; actually first time for any car.

No need to remove the fuel pump relay like I had read on some posts...removing the ground connector was the most difficult part because it was just hard to get off use fairly large flat head screwdriver to pry off...be patient; just hope this helps someone.

Use a good size flat head screwdriver to pry the ground connector and fuel connector off (while depressing the release clip).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2001 C2; just replaced the fuel filter; actually first time for any car. I was surprised how easy it was...I was expecting the worst. The trick is to remove the front plastic cover closest to the engine (in addition to the larger center plastic cover). Once removed you can insert your hand, and arm up to your elbow, into a tunnel area and take hold of the filter; much, much better than trying to spread the main cooling lines below the existing filter. Filter comes out through the tunnel. Use a good size flat head screwdriver to pry the ground connector and fuel connector off (while depressing the release clip). The metal ring that holds the filter in place may slide out of its plastic retainer...I connected the new fuel line at the front of the car first so that it helped hold the new filter in place while positioning the retaining ring onto the new filter and into the plastic holder. I also only jacked up the rear...this prevented any fuel from draining from the front of the car when the old filter is disconnected. Also, before starting, open the fuel filler cap to relieve any fuel tank pressure. No need to remove the fuel pump relay like I had read on some posts...removing the ground connector was the most difficult part because it was just hard to get off use fairly large flat head screwdriver to pry off...be patient; just hope this helps someone. Thanks
Nice job man, it is a bit of a pain to get to, but it is a very straight forward install with the quick release fittings. Easy job with little clean up if done correctly... a lot easier and less messy than a lot of other fuel filters on other vehicles.
Thanks for the encouragement, I tackled this today and was a bit stumped before I worked those cooling lines apart a bit.
In other news, my '99, C2, Tip, has apparently NEVER had the fuel filter changed in its 20 years of existence, 67K miles of driving, or 6 previous owners.
Better late than never? Original date code "13.02.098." Believe it was assembled in March of '98 so it was fresh once! New date code "09.05.17". Wonder who will find it in 2037? Credit to Porsche for designing something that can survive this long I guess. It may be confirmation bias, but I'd swear it revs more smoothly now, especially at low revs and idle.
Sigh.... check out those date codes....
