POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings, My neighbor posted this 2001 Porsche Carrera 4 996 in Biarritz White with Natural Brown Leather on Nextdoor. I decided to send her an email to look at the car. Nextdoor is not a great place to post for sale a car such as this in my opinion, but never the less that's what she did. I arranged to meet her on a Sunday with my wife to look at the car. A Porsche was not some something we were expecting to purchase in the near future but I love white cars, and I especially love white Porsche's. The seller had advertised the car for a month first on Craigslist for $21,500 and said she had weird people calling her. Go figure! By the time I looked at the car she had lowered the price to $19,500. Now here is the good, the bad, and the ugly news about this ride. She bought this car after it's lease ended in 2003 from the original Porsche dealership, Pacific Porsche, right here in Hermosa Beach, CA. where it has been garaged kept since she purchased it. She had all the service records, all the keys, and books. The car had never been in an accident, paint fine except it wasn't detailed. Interior looks new with a few exceptions. Floor mats were toast and her kid put feet marks on the center console area! Tiptonic gear handle was worn probably from make-up chemicals on her hands. After test driving the car with my wife, and looking over the service records, I asked her what were the things that she knew where wrong with the car? Also my wife and I also had a dollar number in our heads that we thought she might take for the car. She said the drivers memory seat no longer worked, and the speedometer gauge had what as she described as a dragon growing out of the digital display. I also pointed out the rear view mirror was fogging up along the bottom portion of the mirror. I asked her why she hadnt fixed these things she replied they were not safety items and she wasn't' bothered by them! Also during a recent service at Pacific Porsche the car was had damaged the passenger side rear rims chrome had flaked off and they agreed to repair it. The IMS bearing was replaced at 75,000 with an LN engineering bearing, rear main seal, water pump, and other service items that plague these vehicles. The 996 now has 87,300 miles on it. I purchased the car for $17,500. Pacific Porsche refinished the rear rim on their dime and I had them do the other three on my dime and put four new tires on it. They said the front tires were from 2006, and I decided to just put four new ones on it all they way around. Wheel alignment checked and a recommended throttle body cleaning too! I also discovered much to my chagrin that the rear spoiler doesn't raise evenly and needs a new lifting mechanism, ouch! Here are the options the car has: Narural Leather Brown $4,600 Comfort Package $2,090 Technic Package $2,190 Self-Dim MIrrors & Rain Sensor $690 Heated Front Seats $400 "High Gloss" TurboLook 18 Whl $2,160 3-Spoke Lthr Steering Wheel $255 EXCLUSIVE OPTIONS $860 Natural Brown Floor Mats $110 Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips $750 I spent my days off and detailed the cars exterior and interior and it looks amazing! I used my porter cable variable speed random orbit polisher and Adam's Polishes on the paint. Tell me what you think! I'm very excited to own such a car and have joined the PCA. I realize there is a hefty repair price on the seat, rear spoiler, mirror and center console. My wife and I will have fun with our weekend driver and plan to attend some PCA events. I also live near the Porsche Experience locate in Carson, CA and plan to have some dinner and drinks there with with my other friends that own Porsche's! I want to thank Rennlist and for all the great information here that has assisted us in learning about the car. I look forward to you're feed back Please try to be kind. And enjoy the pictures! Eric Manhattan Beach, Ca

POST 2Original post

Congrats! I never get tired of looking at a white 996! One of my top 3 colors! My favorite is white with all of the amber front and rear lights. Enjoy it!

POST 3Original post

Nice looking 996! Now all it needs is a good long drive. (repeated as necessary)

POST 4Original post

White's my #1 pick for the 911 as well. Congrats and enjoy!

POST 7Original post

I just thought about the interior color. I usually prefer black but I must say, I think it would be an experience stepping into a car with that color interior! Definitely different, and different in a good way!

POST 9Original post

White and Speed yellow are my favorite colors by far on Porsches....congrats on the great deal and the beautiful car.

POST 14Original post

Absolutely gorgeous car , how about some interior pictures? Great location too, very jealous now that snow is falling here. I personally love Hermosa Beach, but need to win the lottery before I can move.

POST 15Original post

Beautiful car, Needs tire shine and new motor mounts though

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MoeMoney, Tire shine maybe! Motor mounts, por que? But thanks for the kind comments! I detailed it up my self! Eric

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 15484740

Exhaust tips are hanging low and that usually means that the motor mounts are worn. It makes a significant difference in driving feel with new motor mounts and they are cheap and easy to install.

POST 18Original post

That thing is gorgeous. I love that color combo!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MoeMoney, oh crap! Thanks! Add it my list of stuff to fix! Joe didn’t you get a new ride too! I thought I say a new ride you posted too! Gray and black wasn’t it! Congrats! Thanks all for the kind words. I detailed it myself! Eric

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 15486042

I just got mine in November. If I couldve found one just like mine with the exception of having the color combo of yours, I would be a hundred times happier with it than I already am (and Im pretty happy with my car). White over natural brown leather is amazing.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Joey, i dont think many were made in my color combination. I’m going to ask PNA (Porsche North America) when I get my proof of ownership how many were shipped to the US market. But I doubt they’ll tell me but I’m not going to give up. The color combo is what compelled me to purchase the car. White cars just do it for me. I bought mine 11/13 but I had the wheels and alignment service and it took a couple of weeks to have the rims refinished by the dealership. They look amazing and the whole car just pops! Spending another probably $8000 dollars on other interior repairs and exterior repairs to get it up to a standard that makes it a really sorted car. Way to much fun! Enjoy your new Ride! Eric

POST 22Original post

Wow! I'm happy for you, and sad that cars this nice are selling that cheap!

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I stole it in some respects! I think the lady just gave up on it based on all the stupid **** she didnt fix. I have it insured from Leland insurance company for $30,00 if it gets wiped out or stolen or both. She started out on of all places on for sale advertising it on Craigslist for $21,500! She had a bunch of tire kickers at first and about the time she had me on the hook they were beating down her door for it. Snooze you lose! Like all of you I hope it goes up in value! It’s a really great car I really happy to own it! Eric

POST 24Original post

Thats a screenshot of the day I bought mine, sitting in the deivers seat. Check out the date at the top. Looks like we bought our 996s on the same day.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Joey, I'd say It was a good day for both of us! Too funny! I have to take some interior pictures too! BTW, Pacific Porsche has been very good to me with my purchase of my old girl! They are really nice there and helpful! They are not snooty at all. I highly recommend Pacific Porsche in Hawthorne, CA. My service writer is Hannah George and the service Manager in Jim Curtin. Hannah's number is [phone removed] and Jim's number is [phone removed]. They are great people and it's kind of like going to a car show on the sales floor as they have some really amazing cars there! I look forward to meet you at a PCA Los Angeles in future! Eric

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MoeMonney, I dropped off my car at the dealership to repair the headlight washer nozzle this morning that self ejected it self last night. I spoke to the service writer in regards to the motor mounts comments you made here of the tail pipes hanging down are an indications of the motor mounts in need of possibly being replaced. The service writer reviewed the Rennlist comment with the mechanics at Pacific Porsche they replied they had never heard of that before, and disagreed with the comment that tail pipes were an indication of possibly needing motor mounts . They took a snap shot of the Rennlist post for their review with other mechanics as well. Where did you here this before? It's no big deal and I appreciate everyone's input. Eric

POST 27Original post

As the motor mounts wear out, the center section with the bolt elongates, causing the rear of the engine to droop. Exhaust tips that hang low are a quick visual indication that your motor mounts are wearing out.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cds72911, Thanks I will continue to discuss this with the dealership service writer. I have a huge punch list of repairs that the previous owner seem to give up on! Driver seat needs a new frame, rear view mirror, crappy amplifier and bass unit in frunk, beat up center console, blah, blah, blah I’ll just add this to the list! Not to mention reviewing through the service records and see what’s behind on servicing! Gotta love it!

POST 29Original post

imo, you need to stop going to the dealer and find a porsche indy. These cars are 15+ years old and few techs have dealt with 996s (in my experience). A good indy shop will be much better working on your car than the dealership.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

RngTrtl, I'm just as much not a fan of independent garages (Not sure what an Indy is?) as you are the dealerships apparently. I have too many independent garages "do me wrong" on my time on this earth. And there is little recourse, if any at an independent garage! They just show you the door if you're not happy. Pacific Porsche is an amazing dealership with mechanics that have been there for over twenty years. They charge me a hourly rate to work on my car 2001 of $175.00 a hour as they consider my car classic. However I have multiple layers of a hierarchy of management if things go south. Try that at an independent garage. The amenities at the dealership are stellar! For instances, I dropped my car off yesterday and I had no way home. They provide me with an Uber's to my home for free of charge. The service waiting area provides you with all the comfort of home, light snacks, coffee, internet, parts, and it's spotless clean of which I rarely see at an independent garage. The place is a car shows in it's self as the owner has historic vehicles on display. The facilities are amazing! The staff are willing to help with questions, and will make time for you by if need be calling out a knowledgeable person to assist you if the service writer can't answer the question! I don't find these amenities at independent service places IMO. Most of them in my experience won't stop for a second to help you with anything your not paying them to fix! My service writer called me today and explained the the coolant expansion tank is not leaking but has stress cracks in it. Add another thing to the list @ five hours of labor, and $280 for the part! The previous owner was on the deferred maintenance plan and she used an independent garage here locally. I'm blaming the independent garage though it's all on her. I'll gladly ready and willing to sort my car out paying Pacific Porsche than to deal with any more independent places for as long I am walking of the face of this earth. I have been shown the door for my last time by some smug a-hole owner whom really doesn't charge that much less to wrench on my cars! $125.00 an hour! Thank you for your input, I mean no disrespect, but I am just done with independent service facilities here in the people's Republic of California! Merry Christmas to all! Eric

you do you my friend. I think you missed the part where i said a GOOD indy shop. All they do is work on older Porsches. It appears that you have not found one of those even though you are literally located in one of the best locations for them in the entire US. All the reputable ones bend over backwards for their customers and will not let a car leave until its right. The fact that your dealership cannot spot failed motor mounts or even bother to check them (it takes like 15 minutes even at home) is a tell-tale sign to me they dont know or care as much as you think they do. It appears to you though that your dealership is the exception to the rule so I wish you the best luck. Just an FYI, you are getting charged book time for that expansion tank as would be expected from a dealership. Many of us have changed them (myself included) and I can assure it takes no where 5 hours to change one even the first time at home. No disrespect either, i just hate seeing people get taken for ride. As long as your happy with what you are getting for your money thats all that really counts. Best wishes.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

RngTrtl, After I replace the expansion tank myself, and my wife is driving the car from Los Angeles to San Diego in hot weather, and it blows off a hose that I installed and over heats the engine and destroys it who’s door to I knock on to recoup my loss! I don’t wrench on much of anything these days. I replaced the hoods gas struts and gas cap myself. But that’s about as far as wrenching goes for me these days. I’m fully aware that the dealership is charging me book time. If you know of some really GOOD Indy shop because as you say I’m in the best part of the county for them, I’m all ears my friend! It’s all just personal preference. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! Eric

No worries. just wanted to hook you up with some info. Lots of people dont know about how (most) dealers price their time for repair work. Create a separate post saying something to effect of: "Can anyone recommend an indy in SoCal LA area? I am need XYZ area work done and need a quality indy shop." You will get members here that will give you testimonies to their favorite shop in your area that are well respected and do great work that have been in business for many years. Cheers.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

RngTrtl, I appreciate your assistance but there seems to be such a "IMO" regarding taking your car to the dealership for service here. I just read a recent post here where a gentleman takes is his car to an "indy" to have the expansion tank replaced among other things, and the cap won't seat on the expansion tank. He's now buying replacement caps without success and it's bleeding out on the engine and further post "which part number" did they install? Post after post, after post from form members as they try to figure this out? And furthermore, to add insult to injury he doesn't want to take it back to the Indy because he knows someone there (the owner?) and feels sorry for him! Where is the savings? And at what cost to his time? Compromise the vehicles engine and it could leave you, or your loved one, stuck on the side of the road! This is not my first rodeo as I have been purchasing cars since 1978. So for my hard earned I'll take my chances, and money at the dealership and gladly pay the set hourly rate so as to avoid this type of nonsense. Can it happen at the dealership? Maybe. But I'm not going to have "feelings" about taking it right back to them to correct the issue. It's business, and there is not a "care" factor. Because nobody cares but your mama! Be well my friend! Eric

POST 35Original post

hartm, I think that your problem is that you have not found the correct "Indy" I have taken all my cars to both, indys and dealership and you can find good and bad in both sides. I am more than happy with the indy where I take my Porsche because they are honest and I feel I can trust on them. They are Porsche specialist and I dont see the dealership treating my care more carefully than they do. But of course, this is all about personal preferences.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 15494710

Like I said, you do you my friend, in your extensive experience you seem to have it all figured out. Cheers.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result. I sure do have it all figured out thanks to you my friend.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Parris, I think you’re wrong about independent service garages and you could never convince me to go back to another one. My vehicle is video by the service writer inside and out when it arrives. All the interior is covered with plastic and paper. The facility is spotless with full complimentary anything you want to drink or eat (no alcohol of course). Lounge has free wi-fi and is very clean and comfortable. Bathrooms that your wife or girlfriend will actually use. The place is a staged with classic Porsche’s and Porsche gear to buy. My car never sits outside over night in some parking lot to get wet and sloppy all night or broken into like independent garages. They have multiple levels of indoor parking instead of cars all crammed together to get door dinged or scratched up. Free car washes not only after your service but anytime you want to stop in and have it preformed. Your service writer texted you updates and your invoice is sent to you sign and pay in an email if you should choose to along with the service record of the service that was performed. Mechanics that under go continued education. Surveys from the dealership of how your last services went. Free Uber ride home if you don’t have one. A great parts department that price matches or gives PCA members 10% off factory’s parts. If things go south with the repair there is a whole hi arch of management to address you and not just the owner who tells you to take your business some where else if you don’t like it! And it’s happened to me more times than I care to say. They dealership doesn’t get to fimiliar with you so that it breeds contempt as some independent garages seem to. The independent start out hot and soon becomes luke warm at best as time goes on and there is nobody keep track of the service level like the do with a survey after your service is done. They have always provide me with great customer assistance on any question I have and recommendations unlike independents that just wants your keys and you to leave the car. And then they get in it your car and put greasy foot prints and hand prints all over it or they don’t cover the pant work properly.. Other than what ever you pay for an hourly rate and book time they charge you for can you tell me what your independent garage does that is so great for you? Do they have even a portion of the above things that I experience at the dealership I go to has to offer? None of the ones I have ever been to do. No, this is great county, and your free to go and spend your money anyway you like! But for me and my little red wagon I choose to have my cars serviced at the dealership. I’m interested to hear your list or see your independents websites! Porsche south bay.com Check it out! There simply the best. Eric

Oakland Tactical, Thank you! It’s certainly not a aggressive looking car like a black car is, but it’s really different. It’s not as worthy as your is car is which would be my holy grail car. For now, I’ll fix all the stupid stuff that the previous owner placed on differed maintenance and enjoy it! And hopeful move on to something like yours someday! What year is that! Eric

I don't think Hartmn is a troll, I just think he doesn't see the value in an indy (independent) shop. I see both sides of it and can honestly say you both make very valid points but at the end of the day don't we all need to take our cars where we feel comfortable? I happen to have a local indy why provides all the things Hartmn likes about the dealer so that is where I choose to go. They have a clean shop (could eat off the floor) awesome waiting area with wifi, free food drinks etc and CLEAN Bathrooms. They also provide complimentary loaners if need be, and or a ride back to home or work. The cars are left inside if requested or in a locked parking lot out back. This shop charges less than the dealer, but more than most others but I personally do not mind paying more because I do not want to have to spend time in a grimy garage where I can't even sit in a waiting room because its too dirty. Basically some people, myself included, will pay more for some "Frills" and others want bare bones pricing and will sacrifice other amenities for that. All this being said I do feel the Indy has one leg up in the fact that they probably service more of these cars than a dealer does. My guess is most the techs at the dealer are used to working on the newer ones, and the old timers who were used to working on these are long gone and retired lol. Again I am fortunate my Indy isn't a "Porsche specific" one, but the head tech happens to be a Porsche guy.

POST 43Original post

I swear he sounds like he works there and this is some kind of advertisement. lol

POST 44Original post

I think dude scored a nice car. The shop thing is only a concern if the costs of full dealer service seem unworkable for the owner. If he is getting the product that he wants and the price isn't out of the question, then why not. I have to say, I tried to find a good independent shop in my area, and the ones I have spoken to hadn't worked on Caymans, didn't want to touch it if it wasn't a 911, didn't want to talk to me if I was cost conscious, etc. I might end up going to the dealer in Denver for things that I can't manage on my own.

POST 45 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BoulderGeek, You are correct on both accounts sirs! I scored a nice car and I guess financially I can afford to go to the dealership to have my Porsche repaired and serviced. What a crime! I have posted at least a half of dozen reason why I preferred to have my Porsche serviced at? Does anyone here really give a S or F where I take my car to have it repaired? Today, Porsche South Bay sent an Uber to pick me up to get my car from the service department. My right side headlight washer broke and when they said the car was ready for pick up on Friday I arrived and it was Noticed by Someone that the side left was now leaking on the car. They apologized and said it was probably due to all the pressure of the new hoses on the right and the old one on the left was now failing, cracked hose or somewhere in the system. I left the car and thanked them for discovering it before I got home with it! They got the part in that same day and called me Friday afternoon and said they fixed the left side and was car was now ready to be picked up. I didn’t have time to go back as I had a Christmas party to attend to. The service writer explained to me that they waived the labor cost and gave me the left side nozzle at a discount! Evil I say just plain evil! My service writer apologized and said they were open on Saturday from 9am to 5 pm and that she could send me a text with a link with an Uber so I could just click on the link when I was ready to have Uber come and get me and take me to Porsche South Bay on their Uber account! Fantastic! Thanks again Boulder Geek and Horsepwr for the neighborly comments. Let cooler heads prevail! Merry Christmas to all! God Bless America! Land of free and the home of the brave! I can spend my hard earned money anyway I choose too! Yehaa! I thank all the kind Rennlist members whom don’t name call and judge because I dislike or haven’t found a GOOD independent service repair! In the mean time I’m spending my kids inheritance on an almost twenty year old Porsche that has twenty year old broke parts! Ain’t America great!

POST 46Original post

JFC, give it rest all ready, damn...nobody gives af. also, troll confirmed.

POST 47Original post

I personally don't think a trip to the Porsche dealer needs to be any more $ than a good indy. An example is the 996.2 I bought over the summer from Cleveland Porsche (Penske). I spoke to the service manager and had all the receipts. It was clear that they did not upsell or do anything not requested by the previous owner. Very honest (IMO) and also offered track prep. It gave me renewed interest in trying my local dealer (Germain of Ann Arbor). Love my indy and that relationship, but certain service items should be done at the dealer).

oh troll confirmed guys! You got me now! I’m busted because you say so huh! Why don’t you find another thread to crap on? You seem to a give af. Do I have to leave now because Rng Trtl says so? Are you going to tell the admins on me? Why don’t you grow up! I’m so sorry I take my car to a dealership and you don’t approve. Rng Trtl why don’t you go and try to bully somebody else? Maybe they’ll be sacred of you.

POST 49 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ratchet1025, I don’t disagree with you I just haven’t found the right independent so until then I’ll keep going to the dealer. And yes I agree some jobs are better off preformed by the dealer. I like the service they give though and if things go south it’s my experience that I have more kings ears to listen to my issues than an independent garage.

POST 52Original post

Theres a huge difference between price shoppers and value shoppers. OP is a value shopper (as am I). The 996 community seems to be overflowing with price shoppers. One cannot talk sense into a price shopper because all they can see or hear is a dollar amount and they know way better than youll ever know where to put your dollars. Also, OP, didnt you know? Theres a specific way youre supposed to own a 996 and the members of this forum are the keepers of that ownership method. If you dont listen to them and do EXACTLY what they say and how they say it, youre not a REAL 996 owner. Also youre a confirmed troll. Gotta love the price shopping, internet meme generation! Theyre all so wise!

You mean I am allowed to take my car to a shop that I like, is convenient to me, and has amenities I like? You don't say..... What some fail to understand is some people, not all, do not mind spending more for "frills" in life. And on top of that not all 996 owners bought one because it was the cheap way to get a Porsche. For instance mine had everything we wanted in the car, and happened to be a 996. If I had found it in a 997 I would have went that route. To each his own.

Joey, I did NOT know that! However I have learned it here now. I'm suppose to march lock step in order with value shoppers or else be the subject to belligerent and militant a-holes whom name call when they seem to lose there argument or have no argument to why they use an "Indy" other than there vehemently hate the dealer, and hate for you because you choose to spend your money! At least some here not all though! You're absolutely correct in your comment that they know best how to spend your hard earned money better than you do. What does that remind you of? Thank you for your kind words of support! Enjoy you're new ride that we both purchased on the same day 11/13/2018!

POST 55Original post

From a Technician's point of view, this thing about dealerships vs independents shops, I don't care where you spend your money. I have worked as a Ford Dealership Master for 20yrs, Mitsubishi Master for 10yrs, and a Porsche Miester for 10yrs and a few Indy's in between. I prefer the dealerships also for the "perks", like good health insurance, AIR CONDITIONED SHOP, clean environment, yearly Factory training, Factory special tools, abundant parts inventory on hand, support personnel like service writers, car jockeys, lot boys, helpers, Factory Hot Line, Regional Field Engineers. As far as pay goes, the last dealer I worked for payed me $25 FltRtHr and charged $150 FltRtHr, Specialized Indy's pay $35-$40 FltRtHr and charge $100 FltRtHr, General Indy's pay up to 50% or $45 FltRtHr and charge $90 FltRtHr. So even though you will make more per repair, you probably end up less total due to lack of personnel support/work flow/parts supply. As an economic example: If I tested your computer and found a code P0102 ( air flow sensor). At the dealership you would be charged 1.2 hrs + parts ( 1.0 test .2 replace MAF) $180 + $730.34= $910.34+tax (genuine Porsche(Bosch). At the Specialized Indy you would be charged 1.2 hrs +parts $100 + $250 = $350 + tax (genuine Bosch part). At the General Indy you would be charged 1.2 hrs + parts $90 + $250 = $340 + tax (genuine Bosch part). As a DIY you spend $250 (genuine Bosch part) I'm not sure why you had so much trouble with Indys, all of them I know try hard to please and fix cars as best they can, and most of them do a good job of it. I have a couple friends (local PCA members)I have known for years that own Indy shops that I would and do recommend often for Porsche repairs, and would even take my car to them if I wasn't able to do the work. Maybe it wasn't the shops fault you got sideways with them, maybe it was your Car.

if you were seriously a value shopper and not a price shopper, you would have bought the 996 turbo...sadly the n/a 996s are turning into the 944s as far as prices go and they will continue to fall as the years go on. The 996 turbos dont suffer from the travesty of the M96 motor design and have been appreciating for the past several years. Agreed, you cant talk sense into people easily parted with their money, err, i mean price shoppers.

Thank you for proving my point for me and telling me which 996 I shouldve bought. edit* Monetary value=price. Price is only a part of the whole picture of value. If all one considers is monetary value when making a purchase, one is a price shopper, not a value shopper.

POST 58Original post

I was going to let all this go, but I'll toss my 4 cents in(inflation). I am definitely a price shopper. As a DIY, and buying from the bottom of the barrel, often revealed as a 'low ball' or 'bottom feeder'. I get guys regularly telling me how wrong I'm doing things, and that I should do this, or that, or spend here, or there. Which is kinda weird, because I'm maybe the only one on rennlist that makes money on EVERY Porsche ever bought. 928s, 968, 944T, and my 996. I LOVE value shoppers. They are my bread and butter. May pick up a 996 turbo next, and turn that. Hard to say. I recommend DIY, but understand that many folks aren't tuned that way. Nothing wrong with using a stealership, oops - I mean dealership. They gotta make a profit too. All I care about is the OP is happy with his car, the price, the service, and the deal. It's not how I do it, but really, there's no right or wrong. One of the complaints I had with my car was nothing to do with the way it drove, or the ride, or anything else. It was the constant worry about the IMS blowing up. Maybe I should have taken it to a dealer, and had a new engine installed proactively? Guessing that would run about $28,000 on my $16,000 car. hmmmmm. When it's all written in the history, did we have a good time? That's the key. Seems like the OP is having a good time. Go forth and enjoy.

You are claiming to shop for value and then justify literally buying the 911 series that has the least value...That doesnt even make any sense. Please, by all means, share some more of your wisdom with the group.

You dont understand the concept of value as a whole. Youre talking about monetary value, which is price. Theres more to the value of something than its sale price. There ya go, buddy. Theres some wisdom for ya.

POST 62Original post

There is intrinsic value in a 996. People who buy them seem to love them all out of proportion to the actual cash value. It's often a topic of contention here in threads like this. Mine had intrinsic value for a few months. I got over it.

POST 63Original post

Quotes source post: 15508450

Im not the one that brought up the concept of value in regards to shopping, you were. Shopping inherently has to do with price. Changing the definition of what you meant by value from shopping value to a general concept of value mid conversation is disingenuous and a poor strategy to justify a position.

POST 64Original post

I did bring up value, youre right. Price is most certainly one aspect of shopping, youre very smart and observant. I havent changed the definitions of anything and I havent had to do anything to justify a position. Youre doing an excellent job of proving me right every time you respond.
