Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Mileage was low (64k), but I replaced things based on age.

Whether I keep it a year, or longer, I don’t know, but it’ll check the box.

I wish I could've kept it, as I had a great indy to maintain it, and it ran fantastic!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, it finally happened. After 20 Years of ownership, I decided to trade my '99 C2 Coupe on an upgraded sports car. I bought it new, drove it in a spirited fashion, had zero problems with it, and maintained it meticulously. It provided an unbelievable amount of fun, great times, and escape when life got tough.
I wish I could've kept it, as I had a great indy to maintain it, and it ran fantastic! I wanted to offer it to someone here on Rennlist, but it got caught up in the negotiations with the new purchase, and I simply didn't have time (the whole thing was impulsive).
I really enjoyed this forum, and as I move on, my final thoughts are that I could have pretty much owned and driven anything, but loved the 996 dearly. A final pic of the car, and one of the new one to join the stable.
and the new one......
Wow congrats, I'd be very curious to know how the new car feels in terms of driver feedback compared with the 996. Stuff like steering feedback/feeling etc?
He needs a hot Italian mistress, that why, will cost him a fortune but it will be worth it... Going through that myself....but in the end we all come back
congrats on the new car....enjoy!
Brief response: I ain’t getting any younger, and always wanted a Ferrari. Whether I keep it a year, or longer, I don’t know, but it’ll check the box. It won’t be as nimble or tossable as the 996. The 996 was light, very well balanced, and was just a really fun car. May rank as the best car (E39 BMW 528i notwithstanding), and would keep it if I had room, but none of my family can drive a stick.
I drove the new Carrera S with all the goodies, and it is heavier, more powerful, but with ghosts of the old 996. I may find my way back to Porsche in a few years......
Thank you all (and Porsche), it’s been a great ride!!!
Wow, that is a great looking 458 Spider. I have already scratched the Ferrari itch but I need to do so again in a late model car (458 would be my choice too). Best of luck to you with your Fcar.
It is great to hear from an original owner of a trouble-free 996. How many miles did you have on the car? I've had my 996 for about thirteen years now and echo your sentiments and appreciation of the model. I've thought many times about selling it but I can't seem to bring myself to actually do it as it is such a great all-around sports car IMHO.
64k miles, all put on by me. You’d cry if you found out all the maintenance I just had done. Needs nothing...and it never was in the shop for a problem. I hate to say goodbye, but I have no choice......
I used to laugh when folks would tell me what a bad car the 996 was. Of course, they never set foot in one. I’ve had it sideways in a turn and saved it, hit 168 mph and she still had more to go.....listened to a great sound system which it had.
Congrats and enjoy. Someone will get lucky when they buy your old and well cared for 996. Wish it was me. I am still just getting to enjoy it. Yes, it is a perfect Florida car.

Truer words have never been spoken!
There's nothing better than your first Ferrari, and then there is nothing better than rediscovering the quiet competence of Porsche. It's all good (great actually). Beautiful 458 BTW.
Congratulation on your new car. I love the 458! I think that you wont be sad at all. The 458 is one of the best product and more balanced ferrari of last times.
That been said, your 996 looks amazing. If I had found it when I was searching, it would be a great car to have. Curious. Did you ever change the IMS or was just one of the most good units?
By the way, may I ask why spyder? I also live in Florida and I dont get the point to drive cabrios here. Due to my profession I have the opportunity to drive different cars frequently, also cabrios. Is so hot all year around, that you have to keep always the top up and the AC on. ??
I bet you'll be back! Nothing bad to be said about the Ferrari - except that it WILL cost you a fortune! Clearly you "can afford it" (at least for a little while). As for "nobody else can drive a stick"... Boy oh boy! That's an asset in my book!!!
I guess the Ferrari is an automatic
blasphemy! Enjoy the "Italian bird"
No manual 458s. They all have the F1 gearbox, similar to PDK. It has a button that allows you to run it in automatic mode, where the computer does the shifting.
You could argue that the F1 and PDK gearboxes are manuals, they just have automatic clutches.
Like a 1996 Honda Civic that was always there for you across decades, glad you had a good experience with the 996. Any tips on having a car across 20 years other than good maintenance? How many miles did you accumulate on it?
Onward and upward though. Life is about exploration. I stayed on Rennlist even though I had a BMW, Harley, Mini Cooper between Porsches, but it wasnt always easy. Are you also looking at other forums?
As much as I love my 996, if I had a chance to own a F-car (especially in white 😍
I would. Nice swap! Would definitely love some driving reviews after you log some seat time! I've never driven a modern one but loved the character of the 308 and 348 I had opportunity to drive.
Were in North FL, and its a different temperate zone than the south. So its driveable six or seven months with the top down
As far as whoever gets the car next, its a creampuff. It makes little sense to sell so cheap, but I dont have room.
Maintenance really wasnt bad at all. Mileage was low (64k), but I replaced things based on age. IMS, AOS. RMS, clutch, flywheel, water pump, etc....
