every time something is repaired the warrantee is extended for another 18 mos.

I stopped in the dealer to check on the car on monday.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2004 C4S with was in for warranty work a few months ago. The dealer said they saw a few drips coming from the rear main seal. That was at 12,000 miles. The dealer replaced the rear main seal and touched up the clutch. This was no big deal at the time cause I had read up about it on this forum, besides it happened on a weekend and allowed me to test drive a cayenne. Today I was sittin at a light and I heard a metallic clunking and the car shut off. I knew something was wrong so I started the car and busted a Quick left into the Jiffy lube that was at the corner. When the car stopped I jumped out to see a puddle of oil coming from under the car. I called Roadside assistance and had the guys push the car into one of the bays. The manager looked under the car and confirmed that oil had come out of where the seal would be at . I had the car towed to the dealer and they said they'd call me Monday. Should I be worried about the engine and the clutch? and does this impact resale value? I'd appreciate the feedback.
I also had the RMS replaced, no problems since and to be honest i have never head of the rear main seal coming out...Is that even possible?? It sounds like some thing worse to me, but I dont know, just wait for the call on monday and be thankfull the car is still in warranty. And not to sound like an ***, but a jiffy lube Manager is far from knowing a Porsche..could be something else.
Yeah I know. He just pointed out that the oil came from between the trans and the engine. I knealt down and it looked like the general area. I assumed that most guys with average car knowledge could identify the area. I wasn't allowed to go in the pit beneath the car so I had to go by his judgement. I hate when **** happens on the weekend.
Well I had my RMS done a year ago and now its leaking again!! Just a few small drips on the garage floor, BUT I am now out of warrenty. Does anyone have experience getting these fixed after warrenty runs out???
I have not had the RMS leak on my 2004 (now at 8,000 miles), but earlier this month I went ahead and got the factory extended warranty just in case from PCNA. I intend to keep the car for a lengthy period of time, and thought this would be the prudent thing to do.
the first RMS "repair" should have guaranteed it for another 18 months (i think). every time something is repaired the warrantee is extended for another 18 mos. if not it, it would probably be "good willed" since it happened so close to the end of your warrantee. i had my old boxster's engine replaced 3 years out of warrantee (original warrantee was 2 years :O ). since it was less than 5 years old they good willed it.
check with your porsche service advisor.
I stopped in the dealer to check on the car on monday. The service manager seemed like he really didn't want to answer many questions so as I went through the shop to grab something from the car I stopped and talked with a few techs about the seal. As I suspected it is a common occurance. They pulled out a seal and explained that the problem is not only the seal but the fact that the block was in two peices where the seal is. It reminded me of the IDG engines I used to replace on B-1 Bombers in the Air Force. And as I thought about about it I remembered...They leaked all the damn time too. I finally called the service manager today but got nothing but the affirmation that it was indeed coming from the rms area. I guess I should just sit back and enjoy the wonderful but gas guzzling cayenne S they loaned me. It's funny how 7 mpg can seem like so much when gas is $2.30 per gallon
The dealer finally called me back and said there was a loss of compression. They are now checking to see if there was a mechanical over rev. I don't beleive this is the case. the car has never sounded or ran any different up until it cut off. Anybody had an intermediate shaft failure? Are these the symptoms?
They may try and claim a type 2 over-rev to make it non warranty! A type 1 occurs with just bouncing it off the rev limiter, no big deal. A type 2 is when you down shift too abruptly and the engine/tranny manually overpower the limiter letting the engine rev way beyond redline.
An I- shaft failure has been associated with chronic RMS fails, should be covered. Tool pants or Loren may want to chime in on this one.
Good luck.
Chris
Thanks for the info serg. I called another dealer that also deals in racing. They stated that if I shifted 6-2nd I would have noticed the difference immediately. They concurred that it sounded like an intermediate shaft. I sure hope so. I drive hard but I don't beleive I drive nearly hard enough to tear the motor up.
