Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Before I installed the blower, I changed oil about every 5,000 miles or so.
Leading evidence: 'Replace oil about every 5,000 miles or so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill crankcase' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The only reason I use a thinner cold oil is for immediate lube of the blower upon start up.

With that politically correct statement under my belt I now sign off and fill the crankcase with Mobil 1, 0-40.

is it a good oil to use (not to sound like the cheapest man in the world but the local canadian tire has it on sale for 2.30 a liter which is a damned good price.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Nicks,
I bought some from autozone also but for $4.99 / qt same as autozone.com web price...
just tall with the manager to price match their internet price...I got 12 last weedend
Kragen in the Bay Area has a sale this week for 3.99/quart. The add states a limit of one case, but the clerk at the store was happy to sell me more at that price.

How often are you guys changing oil? I'm doing a break-in change this weekend at 3k, but was thinking maybe just follow the recommendation after that. Opinions?
It depends what kind of driving you are doing and how dirty the air is. Around here there are alot of farms which create alot of dust when the fields are being worked. This increases the the risk if crap in the oil. Before I installed the blower, I changed oil about every 5,000 miles or so. With the blower (because it also uses the engine oil for lube) I change it about every 3,000 miles. Filter every other time. It may be longer if I take a trip to Vegas or other long trip.
our local dealer uses 5 w 50.
an engine build and rebuild expert in our area also says the 0 w 40 is not the right stuff regardless of what P cars says. 3/4 of the driving is not suited for that grade iho. Finally suggests that regardless of their recomendation - 5,000km or so at most between changes.
I agree with you 100%. Before my SC, I always ran 15 - 50. The only reason I use a thinner cold oil is for immediate lube of the blower upon start up. I am working on a mod that will make this unecessary hopefully.
how many quarts are in a liter or vice versa? (ended up paying 10.50 a liter from the local OPC lol).
Is Castrol GTX 20-W50 on the approved list? is it a good oil to use (not to sound like the cheapest man in the world but the local canadian tire has it on sale for 2.30 a liter which is a damned good price.
Here is a link that a co-worker (real motor head) sent to me the other day that, while it rambles, is one of the best explanations of multi-vis oil weights I've read. It also addresses Castrol Oil (asked about in this thread) and really explains the nuts and bolts of oils.

Oil threads are like Ford vs. Chevy threads both on automotive web-boards as well as aircraft web-boards. There is alot of non-progressive thinking and alot of anecdotal evidence that is not backed up by scientific evidence (who made the local mechanic a petroleum engineer?).
The absolute best phrase I've heard regarding oil discussions is as follows;
Arguing about oil brands is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded
With that politically correct statement under my belt I now sign off and fill the crankcase with Mobil 1, 0-40.
