I'm probably the only person that notices it and usually only when i'm washing the car (so I notice it often, haha).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If ya didnt see my earlier post i just bought my 996 and drove it across the country home. well sadly when i got home i noticed behind and below the front tires the areo kit took a beating.
Do they make any guards or some type of protectors I can put over this? Is this pitting just happening to me? my front bumper got a few too. but nothing like behind the wheels.
also, i should really take another picture because its MUCH cleaner now-
If it bothers you, each dealer has touch-up specialists that visit the dealership usually on a weekly basis. Have one of those guys touch-up the damaged area and you should be pleased. They charge around $75 for small jobs and it'll look good as new. Of course the only drawback is that the paint chipping will recur.
Since I have started taking my 996 to the track, I had the clear bra installer custom make protectors for this area. Now, in addition to having the traditional front bra area and mirrors covered, I have my Aerokit II rockers covered and the space behind the rear wheels. Seems to work well so far.
I put some ScotchCal clear protective film over the leading edge of my flairs, and on the lower part of the rear bumper cover. The paint in these area takes a real beating from the stuff the tires kick up.
You can either DIY, or have an installer that does Stone Guard apply it.
Here is what a flair with 36K miles on it looks like with the protective film.
I have same issues with my aerokit rockers and rear flairs (especially the rear flares). Fortunately the car is Arctic Silver so the chips don't show as bad as on a dark car. I'm probably the only person that notices it and usually only when i'm washing the car (so I notice it often, haha). Hell, if i'm going to touch up anything it'll have to be my wheels from driving on these roads in the northeast.
Dang Orient yours looks new! Is the Scotchcal on in the picture you posted? If so that looks perfect.
7Sport, by the rear flares, are you talking about underneath the car pretty much or? Ive noticed I have it pretty bad there as well.
Im definitely going to investigate this ScotchCal stuff, since its a black car it really does stand out, especially now that ive cleaned it up a bit. on my picture above all all the dirt is now got and all you see are the large pits, the white haze or tiny dots was all dirt.
My car has those little aerokit pieces attached to the rear fenders of the car. They wrap around into the rear wheelwell behind the rear tires just like the rocker panel wraps around into the front wheelwell. Pitting is occurring on the aerokit parts inside of the wheelwells behind the front and rear tires. My fenders are rolled so I don't know if it's just the aerokit material that wold be affected or if the metal of the fender would be chipped as well.
I guess its really time to post some pics of my ride. Just took it out of storage yesterday and had a super huge grin on my face to and from work today. So nice to stare at a tach with that awesome engine note behind you.
The Armourfend 996 clear kit offers protection pieces for the front/side /rear of the rocker panels as well as the piece behind the rear wheel going up the side/bottom of the rear bumper. Well worth the few extra coins.

Cool thanks for the info. I think im just going to buy some of the Scotchcal and cut little strips, I only seem to be getting it on those areas so it should do the trick.
Im actually standing in my garage at the moment determined to get my wheel wells to look like yours. heheh while the guy who owned the car prior kept it nice and clean, i've been tackling a new area each day to uber clean. and now i got my lights to install.
