I ran for about a year without any issues but now I get the CEL all the time.

I like the premise of using cat elements to fool the 02 sensors better than just removing the sensor from the exhaust path and that's why I chose these over the typical spacer.

To use extensions I have to get my cats rewelded to move the O2 sensor slightly.

I had to use spacers for the TopGear 200cell cats.

We ended being able to still use a straight spacer by use of a hammer against the floor pan so I don't know first hand if the angled ones will work or not.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a problem with the CEL related to my 200 cell cats. I ran for about a year without any issues but now I get the CEL all the time. I found some extensions for the O2 sensors online that should eliminate the CEL. for example

. There is no room for these on my cats however since one of the O2 sensors is located tight against the other sides exhaust/cat. To use extensions I have to get my cats rewelded to move the O2 sensor slightly. Are there any alternatives specifically for the 996?
My car is a 996 C2 2002-

Google "angled" 02 spacer. I recently went through this with my son's old Pathfinder. We ended being able to still use a straight spacer by use of a hammer against the floor pan so I don't know first hand if the angled ones will work or not.
I had to use spacers for the TopGear 200cell cats. I found 45deg O2 spacers that worked well. They're harder to find than straight or 90deg, but that's what worked.
I kind of hate that solution, and wished the Cats worked as advertised, but I that's what I had to do.
There are different types. The ones you linked actually have very small filters, which have similar heavy-metal filters that act like small Cats. But they're $50 each. In my searching, I had read reviews of people that had the small caps/filters fall off in their exhaust and rattle in their muffler eternally. I did NOT read for that vendor in particular. The one's linked may be very good.
However, it turns out all I needed were the open spacers. Just pulling the post-cat O2 sensor back out of the main exhaust flow was enough to clear my check engine light. So, for me, the simple and cheap solution worked best. I got them for about $15 each and minimal shipping from Amazon. That said, I did some searching now, and between Amazon and Ebay, I can't find the simple 45 deg spacers I used. The only ones on ebay now are $27 for 2, and $25 shipping, which is crazy for what it is.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I believe the 45 degree extensions should work on my cats too. Thank you!!
But I wonder, what happens with the cats? I ran for 1 year before I got the CEL. Does it mean that the cats got worn in that year? I mean, in that case the cats are soon worn out, or what? Or does the deterioration slow down now?

so if I put a catless x pipe and use these extenders on my car I would not get any CEL? I recently had an opportunity to get an fvd x pipe at s good price but was concerned about cel, let me know. Thanks
Like I said, I run catless system and so far they have prevented a CEL. I don't put a ton of miles on my car and the miles I do put on are not really inline with most people on the forum so I hesitate to say they'll work for everyone.
I like the premise of using cat elements to fool the 02 sensors better than just removing the sensor from the exhaust path and that's why I chose these over the typical spacer.
Was same for me. Took the passenger side O2 wires and modified the path...it was pretty uncomplicated once I looked at the problem from the top with air box removed. If you put extenders on, I believe the wires reach. I put angled extenders on mine to get the CEL to vanish. I was torqued my TopGear cats had same fab issue as you, but most folks didnt report any issues with the bung placement. Odd.
