Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install on the left side' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on the left side' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sharing this as I came across it in a 996 FB group. Personally, I still much prefer the current solution I have from one of our members where I can see the actual temp read out but this is another cool option that seems well executed and integrated into the 996 interior. I especially like the buzzer sound once your oil temp gets into the danger zone of 257F, as coded by the guy making these. Glad to see more options and solutions popping up for our cars!
Here's a quick cut and paste:
This display was developed to keep a better eye on the engine and to be able to control the heating better. Since an analogue thermometer does not match the look of the interior, another solution was sought and found.
Depending on the equipment, there is space in the centre console (around the PCM) to install the LED in a dummy switch. To do this, a cable is pulled from the sensor on the oil pan to the switch unit. (attached)
The LED is activated when the ignition is switched on after approx. 5 seconds (power supply). It lights up blue. The LED stays in this color up to a temperature range of approx. 75 - 80C. When the operating temperature of the motor (85 - 90C) is reached, the color changes to green. From 110 to 115C, the critical range is reached and the display turns red! As soon as the dangerous range of over 125C is reached, an additional warning signal in the form of a buzzer/beep sounds. The LED turns white if a line or resistor breaks in the system.
This tool is a component that can prevent/control premature loading of the machine and thus contributes to protecting the motor and thus to its longevity.
It is NOT a plug & play part. A certain basic knowledge of screwdrivers is required. Illustrated instructions and descriptions are included in the kit to help with installation. Incorrect connection (reverse polarity) causes damage to the processor and cannot be replaced and is not covered by the warranty!
I recommend having the work carried out by an experienced workshop.
This is solid craftsmanship from a reputable company and not some kind of do-it-yourself or cheap product from China!
All components are made in Germany. Each switch is tested for functionality before shipping. Returning the component is generally not possible.
It is imperative to specify which surface and installation variant is required. There are 8 variants.

⦁ glossy finish; straight; to be installed on the right side
⦁ matte finish; straight; to be installed on the left side
⦁ matte finish; straight; to be installed on the right side
If no variant is specified, we will deliver "glossy - straight - left"

Thanks Pete. I really like to see the innovative ideas! Great use of the unused switches. Hope we continue to see more ideas come to the market.
Agree with you.
@Coopduc
digital display is a very good solution for monitoring oil temps. No reason to fly blind on monitoring oil temps if you don't have too.
Thanks for posting this Pete...I love seeing new creative ideas for our 996's..
+3 on preferring Coopduc's Temp Gauge..
I'm not crazy about the Sensor/wiring coming from the oil pan Drain Plug... ..It will hang a bit lower and could catch on something...Also being in the bottom of the oil pan instead of where oil slings off the rod and main bearings ( as in the OEM and Coopducs, gauge), will read a bit cooler oil temps....
Otherwise looks like a nice execution ...
