1998 build and it ran flawlessly as a daily driver for 3 yrs and 55k miles before I traded it in for an '02 just to get the various upgrades.

Changes included lots of little things, such as bolts on the undercarriage that were recessed instead of protruding so as to eliminate the threat of being ripped off if scraped.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The later teh production date the better i would assume, but i am just guessing.
What were the production dates from Germany for 1999 911s. what is consider early, mid and late model 1999s?
Were there any meaningful changes throughout the model year?
Thanks
My rule of thumb says don't buy the first year of a new production especially something as major as the 993 - 996 conversion. Is there even a noticeable difference in 2000?
i tried to find some links on this topic but as a new member i sometimes still don't find the key words.
first thing first....thoughts on my 1999 question...thx
My '99 is outstanding even though it was the first year Porsche water cooled thier engines. 2002 was the next year any minor/major changes took place incl. better Bose sound system, different headlamp shape, glass rear window for the Cabs, better exhause note, bigger engine displacement...just to name a few.
Early means mid '98 through probably February of '99. Later models (3/99 - 7/99) were basically '00s without the e-gas.
Changes included lots of little things, such as bolts on the undercarriage that were recessed instead of protruding so as to eliminate the threat of being ripped off if scraped.
From what I've heard, though, these issues were all TSBs on the early ones, so most of them have most likely been fixed. There are no major reliability issues between early or late, and in fact from what I've heard the '99s in general are no more likely to have problems than the '04s (with the exception of the age/miles driven effect).
I have a late '99, and it's been incredibly reliable (knock on wood). If you find one, have it thoroughly checked by a dealer. If it passes muster, buy it. You'll be driving one of the world's finest automobiles for little more than the price of an Acura TL...
I had a '99 C2 Cab that was a Sept. 1998 build and it ran flawlessly as a daily driver for 3 yrs and 55k miles before I traded it in for an '02 just to get the various upgrades.
I HAVE a '99 (for sale too, within 48 hours!!!) and it's been great. Only real bad issue was the airbag light in late '98 when it arrived.
Prior to September '98 build, they had amber lights, then went to clears post 9/98 production, and they added Litronics to the lineup (I have both on my car as standard options).
