Well worth it though since the new hinge kit is metal and replaces the old plastic one.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, A friend sat in my car this weekend not realizing that the center console storage thingy was open and pushed it enough to break the latch. The littel black strap is still connected but the latch is toast. I called local dealer and guy laughed and told me this was pretty common actually and the latch kit was $25 come and get one... I got it... I was wondering.. do I have to remove the whole console to get at it ? Also anyone have a center console removal DYI ? Maybe one for the shifter if that takes it all out to get at it ? It is the little storage place at the back of the console with the keylocked button to open it... any help would surely be appreciated. Thanks mucho... Doug (TX996)

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry just saw it in FAQ... apologize for the bandwidth... TX

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well , I love the FAQ but on this one it was useless.... said there was no good solution... anyone repaired this on their own with the kit ? thanks

POST 4Original post

Doug, I did the hinge kit replacement and YES, you do have to remove the entire rear center console to replace the hinge. You will also need a pop rivet tool. Not hard to do, but just time consuming to remove the console, pop rivet the hinge in, and then replace. If you need a pdf with instructions how to remove the console let me know and the TSB how to do the hinge (just email me). Well worth it though since the new hinge kit is metal and replaces the old plastic one. Dell

POST 5Original post

This might be a warranty item as mine was replaced by the dealer without me asking for it. I think the original design is deficient.
