Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

huskydog Addict Rennlist Member Registered: Aug 2002 Location: Annapolis, MD Posts: 113 I went to the local Porsche dealer who sold me an extended warranty they use when they sell Audi's and VW's. Mine is a 2001 with 41k, so I purchased a 3yr/75000k plan for $1900. I get the car serviced there anyway and they honor the Porsche warranty until it expires and anything Porsche does not cover this warranty does. $100 deductible, everything covered, prorated refund if I sell the car or I can transfer to new owner. __________________ George & Sandi 1988 928S4 5sp Red/Tan 2001 911 C2 Black/Black Porsche Patter-Editor Chesapeake Region-PCA Report this post to a moderator | IP: Logged 04-12-2004 10:14 PM

POST 4Original post

Yes, apparently you did ... Certified warranty price is $1595. They made a quick $1200 on ya. Vic

POST 5Original post

Well, the reality is, they can sell you the warranty for whatever they want to. This is why, if you're smart, you don't buy a $395 tire from your dealer's service department when you can get the same tire from the Tire Rack for $175. Just as they can refuse to discount a new 996, etc. Vic

POST 6Original post

Unless it's a Porsche Factory Warranty, the dealer is nothing more than the middle man making a profit. Just find out who the backer of this warranty is and see how much it would have cost you to buy it more directly. You'll then know what they made off you. I got to tell you though that 3 years for $2800 is about average from dealerships. Not all warranties are born equal.

POST 7Original post

It sounds like you have an extended warranty (from a third party)- not a warranty from Porsche as part of their Certified Pre-owned program. The certified program extends the original factory warranty for two years and up to 100K miles. The dealer pays $1,595 directly to Porsche for the car to be in their "certified" inventory. If you do have the Porsche Certified warranty and you paid the dealer $2,800, the dealer put $1,200 in their pocket. If not, $2,800 sounds about right for a third party warranty company.

POST 8Original post

Since he got a 3 year/75k plan, it has to be a third party plan. And if it's a good plan, the price is in the right ball park. As I said, plans are very different.

POST 9Original post

Dealers try to make as much as they can on extended warranties. They are just the middle men. On my last car they tried to sell me an extended warranty for $2900. After about 30min of negotiating where I finally walked away, they then offered it to me for $995. They really try and sock it to you.
