Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I always ran 15-50W oil...but i was living in Florida.
Leading evidence: 'Run 15-50w oil...but i was living in florida' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend dt40' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I’ve switched my Boxster from DT40 to DI50 and I have to be honest the car ran smoother and quieter

I know LN engineering is still recommending the DT40
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Who has shifted from the Dt40 to the Di50? Any changes noticeable changes in performance from such a significant change in oil? I know LN engineering is still recommending the DT40
LN recomends many different oils for different purposes. Here are two threads that should get you up to speed.

My plan is to start using that oil when I start my end of season oils changes for my 99 C2 cab and my 00 C2 coupe. I'm currently using DT30 in my 07 Cayman S. John
I’ve switched my Boxster from DT40 to DI50 and I have to be honest the car ran smoother and quieter
but no real performance boost
but I buy my oil directly from LNE when they have the sale 2x a year all my cars will eventually run DI50
What i dont like about these conversations or recommendations is that nobody ever talks about the local weather conditions of you and your car.
I always ran 15-50W oil...but i was living in Florida. Now im in northern california, and thats too thick, so i run DT40 and it seems perfect. If i moved further north, i would consider a 0w40 maybe...etc.
According to LN engineering and other reputable websites thicker oil still flows its ok at low temps as long as it’s not below Zero
your change to DT40 is great it’s 5w40 oil I believe but my 996 will be DI50 at next oil service
DI50 has everything in one bottle
all my cars are driven until the bureaucrats salt the roads regardless of temps
We talk about this all the time and argue about it. But you have to stay up to date with the threads.
To your point, would I run DI50 in Chicago in my Audi Q7 (daily driver) in January and February when temps may go to -20? No. I run DI40 year round.
What about running DI50 in my 996 during the Chicago sub zero months? The answer is NO if the car is a daily driver. But the answer is yes if my 996 will sit in the garage on a trickle charger during the extreme cold weather months.
Doubt you have to worry much in N CA about winter temps getting below +20F. But maybe you are in the Sierras and do have to worry.
For sure, temps ranges are important when deciding what oil to run, but so is oil testing and what it says about wear. UAOs will show what oils are better for your M96 than others.
An anecdote for the thread about changing from DT40 to DI40:
I have been running DT40 in the 04 C4S for 3 years which sees ~1500 miles/year and SpeedDiagnostix has commented each time Trends are fine.
We acquired an 01 Cab last year which has seen ~800 miles/year and on the latest (second) oil analysis, SpeedDiagnostix commented:
All results are within normal ranges. If the car will see less than 1,500 miles per year, switch to Motul 8100 X-Cess or Driven DI40 instead. It is best to use a non-ester oil for low mileage
engines that see a lot of storage time.
