Granted, it was the original battery from 1999 and I wasn't really expecting it would make it through the winter, just hoping.

Suggestion
If you have AAA and the car doesn't start, I'd suggest having it flatbedded to a dealer/mechanic (or change the battery at the storage place yourself) to put a new battery in.

Somewhere else on Rennlist, I read that the Porsche batteries were crap and that they should be replaced with a Bosch Silver!

The remote unlocking system in the 996/986 disarms itself after 5 days (or some period of time around that) to conserve juice so you'll need to use your key to unlock.

Just hoping that the Porsche's use of conserving battery juice after 5 days means it starts up for me to drive it home.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I've been away so I haven't driven the car at all (or seen it) as it's in storage. I get back on monday so will I have to look forward to jumping the car for it to start? I'm hoping that since the car is in undergerground garage in LA, out of the cold, it'll start.
Just hoping that the Porsche's use of conserving battery juice after 5 days means it starts up for me to drive it home.
It might work! One trick i found is leaving the car unlocked so the alarm stayed off. It lasted longer without needing a charger. Just doesnt work in public areas! Mine went about 2 months ok. Fire it up and see what happens!
The remote unlocking system in the 996/986 disarms itself after 5 days (or some period of time around that) to conserve juice so you'll need to use your key to unlock. I never went more than 14 days w/o starting my Boxster but I'm thinking at 60 days in a 996 you'll need a jump start. If you do I'd suggest getting a battery maintainer and arranging to have your car plugged in when next stored.
I let mine sit for a bit over two months (Dec. and Jan.) and it started up immediately. The battery even didn't seem to be down at all. In the future I plan to plug her in with the charger.
I think you have a good chance of a successful startup.
You could be fine, but when I went to start mine this weekend the battery was SUPER dead. Granted, it was the original battery from 1999 and I wasn't really expecting it would make it through the winter, just hoping. Anyway, it couldn't be jumped by and Acura or the AAA tow truck -- seems that when these batteries go dead (really dead) , they're goners and nothing will get them started again. If you have AAA and the car doesn't start, I'd suggest having it flatbedded to a dealer/mechanic (or change the battery at the storage place yourself) to put a new battery in. Did the trick for me. Just don't try jumping it too much/long or you'll risk doing some damage to the car (slight chance, but why risk it). Good luck!
Was it left in an heated or insulated garage? All I know is when I left the p-car in a public garage during this winter for almost a month, it was DOA and needed a jump. I used to have an insulated garage and had left it there once for over 3 weeks in the previous winter and it still started up fine.
My bet is that it DEFINTELY will start. I've let my C4S sit idle over the winter for at least 2 months, and started up without any hesitation first time. No sweat.
When I bought my 996 a couple of weeks ago the dealer told me that Porsches would not start if they were not used for 5 days or more. He said that most of his customers just put them on trickle chargers when they were not going to drive them for a few days. He made a big deal of showing me how to open the luggage compartment with a dead battery and how to jump the car.
Somewhere else on Rennlist, I read that the Porsche batteries were crap and that they should be replaced with a Bosch Silver! The Porsche salesman also said that the Porsche batteres were "crap".
This really freaked me out as I am often out of town and routinely leave the car at the airport for a week or two and I actually had to stop and rethink the purchase of the car. I went ahead with the purchase and bought one of those "jumpstart" battery packs that you plug in to your AC to charge, then carry around in the car. This is all probably overkill, but now, when I plan to leave the car for more than 5 days, I just put the small, 18lb battery pack in the back seat and I know that I will be able to start the car without calling a tow truck if necessary.
westcoastrader, your dealer is full of misinformation. The power lock remote is what shuts down after 5 days. Then you use the key to unlock the door. The batteries are fine. I guess we don't know if jyoteen's car started after 2 months, but I'll bet it did. I know I have gone close to that long without any problems. Certainly a week or two shouldn't be a problem.
heh. I still haven't gotten to the garage. I'll know by friday the latest as I'm taking her to a track.
But I tell you what. My VW started up without any indication that the battery was down. So, now, it's up to Porsche to beat Sears in the power department. hehe.
I'd like to update you all to say that teh porkchop started up just fine.
Although, I did detect a slight drain. Nothing that required cranking for more than 1/2 a second.
thanks everyone!
now, for that car wash. She's one dirty girl.
