Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It is also used on a VW/Audi but cost less when you buy it from Porsche.

The only way to check the outside temperature is to have a look on the PCM screen.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Fast Q.
I have a 996 Cab mod. 2000 with Navigation system PCM1
But I dont have any Bord computer lever ??
My display just shows the speed and the outside temp.
Is that normal or what ??
Hi Jeff,
I'd love to know more about retrofitting cruise control if you have any info.
I own a 99 (Europe, equals 2000 in US I think) 996 C2 Cab.
Can it be done?

Yep, how is that done. OBC computer would be nice, even I got all the data on the NAV display.
Still looking for a car in the San Jose area to do a cruise control and OBC/trip computetr retrofit at the same time. Was contacted by someone to do it but over 8 hours away.

Hey Tool Pants.
I made a search here on this forum, ended up reading 3 pages of mud throwing about a DVD containing different stuff. Anyway :-))
What is on that DVD ?
Where can I get one ?
What does it cost ?
Unfortunately I live in Denmark.......so that will be like 18 hours away from CA..............by plane.
I cant figure out, have you done the retrofit of the OBC ??
Best regards from the small little land in Europe,
Okay, thanks so far.
But looks like the OBC retrofit is only done on the 986 not the 996.
Will there be any difference ?
How much is the total price for the retrofit ?
Please let me know Tool Pants if that link above is for the same DVDs as you have made ?
The DVD shows how to do it on Boxsters. It is done the same way on a 996. The only difference between a 996 and a Boxster is the oval trim piece that a Boxster does not have. This is explained in the second link I provided. The wiring harnes you need to make and the switch assembly are otherwise identical for your year.
If you shop around in the US you can buy the parts for about $170. Also, some dealers will charge to turn on the trip computer. Since you can see the outside temp display it is already turned on in your car.
This retrofit is apparently not well know outside of the US. This is a link to the UK Boxster board.

About a year ago someone on that board did the retrofit. You also need to understand that you will not see the fancy dot matrix menues as they did not exist in 2000.
Thanks Tool Pants.
I was aware about the dot matrix thing. It could be cool if you succed on doing the OBC and Cruise control at the same time. Then I dont have to first buy a 3 stalker unit and then later a 4.
Now I just need to get the DVD.
Does the DVD contain a list of part numbers you need and all that s. :-) ??
Thanks again Tool Pants for the quick replies
The current part numbers for your year are identified on the second link. I do not remember mentioning the part numbers on the DVD. Porsche changes part numbers all the time so it would make not sense to do so.
I still find it strange that the 3 spoke switch assembly costs more than the 4 spoke - let me know if it is the same in your country.
The other strange thing is the ignition switch that goes bad on the older cars. It is also used on a VW/Audi but cost less when you buy it from Porsche.
I also have PCM1 but no computer. The only way to check the outside temperature is to have a look on the PCM screen. Is there any way I could activate the temperature display on the speed meter?.
Thanks!
I think in your case you should just talk to the dealer to turn on the OBC system with the PST computer they have.
I am now working hard to make a retrofit of the OBC and Cruise control at the same time.
Right now I am looking into wiring diagrams to sort everthing out. Will ofcouse take a lot of pictures when I start.
Okay. here are the spare part prices.
In germany from Porsche.
996 613 219 00 EAK (now 10 EWC) 180 Euro.This is with cruise control.
996 613 215 00 EAK (now 10 EWC) 260 Euro This is without Cruise control.
At the local dealer shop in Denmark it cost around 30 Euro more. Since he has helped me so much, I have now ordered the the part here in Denmark.
Will keep you all updated on the work.
So am I to understand that on my '01 996 without an OBC, there is a way to get the info display under the tach to read out the outside temp constantly?
