The problem is you still need to get government OK in the US for both saftey (bumpers/doors/glass/lights) but the big problem is the EPA - and the emission system.

It is my understanding that SOME cars that are sold in europe and also the the us -- are in many ways the same when they are fitted with the same motor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am moving back to the US and would love to take my '00 996 Carrera Cabriolet back to NJ. (Hardtop, Nav, Tip, black leather. I just love it!!) I am being told adaptation to US specs and titling is a nightmare and might cost up to $15k-$20K. And the car will never be the same after that... I really love this car. Help, anybody has experience with this process? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Having been somewhat involved with this back in the late 70's and early 80's -- with M. Benz cars - I will tell you it is complex. From what I have been told it is next to impossible to do with a modern car - I think the cut off is 25years. I should say, what I am talking about by "impossible" is the cost to make the changes. It is my understanding that SOME cars that are sold in europe and also the the us -- are in many ways the same when they are fitted with the same motor. The problem is you still need to get government OK in the US for both saftey (bumpers/doors/glass/lights) but the big problem is the EPA - and the emission system.

POST 3Original post

I'm interested in that as well. The U.S. cars seem to be missing a lot of features that euro models have.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...t01132004.html Contact one of the dealers listed, they'll be able to indicate rather better the expense. ~$10k and more than a few months of aggravation is a decent starting bet.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
