Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If they don't you'll need a test-light to see if there is juice going to the switch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Posting this for a friend who hasn't got an owner's manual !
Both reverse lights are blown on his 99 996. Before he even buys bulbs, are those on a separate fuse we could check ? If so would anyone with a manual tell me what the fuse # is ? Much appreciated !
I have a 2003 996. If it's the same, the fuse index is on the inside of the fuse cover. The bulb from Porsche is P 21 W. The socket is BA 15 S.
Hope this helps.
Hi Eric, I had read in another thread that you had fixed the reverse light switch on your 996, so I was wondering if you would give me some tips on mine? Mine just went out, and the problem doesn't appear to be the fuse or the bulbs. I would like to fix this myself, so would you describe with more detail on where the switch is located under the car? Also, how do I tell whether the switch is actually bad or if it's not being depressed enough?
Much appreciated.
Ucube,
The switch is on the tranny near the passenger side closer to the front of the car. Pull out the switch and depress it with your hand, see if the lights go on. If they don't you'll need a test-light to see if there is juice going to the switch. If the test-light lights up you may have a bad switch.
PM me if you need more help, it's easier for me to walk you through it over the phone.
Thanks Eric, I sent you a PM. Please help! You can call me on my mobile [phone removed]) anytime between normal work hours as I'm off work for the next week. Thanks again for your help.

My 99 C2 seems to have a similar intermittent problem here in the UK. I'd like to take up this suggestion but can someone tell me what a 'tranny' is so I can locate the switch?
Thanks
