Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use handi-tak and it survived the winter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use "funtack"' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Although I suggest using "funtack" to affix them before you go permanent with glue.

Just a word of caution, make sure the ring(s) fit perfectly before using any adhesive.

Suggestion
When they fit perfectly use the supplied adhesive (I think I had Loctite 454 which is super-glue.) and use it sparingly!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Don,
O Expert of 996 Mods, do you have any experience with adding alumium trim around your gauges (as an after-market)? I'd like to do so with Porsche genuine parts, but ...
1) how much should I expect to pay,
2) is it just adding the actual alumium trim, or is it also adding new glass too,
3) how difficult of a DIY job is it?
4) where's a good place to purchase it?
Thanks,
Mark

I bought mine at bumperplugs.com. 10 minute install and they look great.
Big difference. If I could figure out how to put a picture on here I would????
Hey Mark.....we're all experts here. Only thing I can add is I had a bit of difficulty mounting the rings in that since there is some "play" in the rings when you mount them, I started with the Tach ring, put silicone on and held it in place for a few minutes so it would "set up" a bit. Then I could more easily match the other rings so they would look all "attached" properly. Mine were some of the early ones from Performance Products so you may not have this problem with the ones from Eric.
BTW Rob I really enjoyed the pics of your home in WA. I loved it when I lived out there.
Although I suggest using "funtack" to affix them before you go permanent with glue. That's what I did with mine and it ended up working so well that I just left it like that.
I used Handi-tak and it survived the winter. I thought it would freeze and lose its adhesiveness but it didn't. If there ever was a need to take the rings off, you just pull them out.
I also used it to stop an annoying rattle from the instrument cluster.
Thanks Don
I was just down in Naples, my in-laws have home in Windward, beautiful sunsets.
Here's my father in law's 912 that he keeps down there, he bought it in '76 new and still drives it.
He's got an '84 911 at their home in CO.
Just a word of caution, make sure the ring(s) fit perfectly before using any adhesive. You can either slightly spread them or close them up. Just do it gently. When they fit perfectly use the supplied adhesive (I think I had Loctite 454 which is super-glue.) and use it sparingly! Hold the ring in place until the adhesive holds. Be careful not to get the adhesive on the gauge face or the steering wheel. And when you do get the adhesive on the gauge face and/or the steering wheel, pure acetone takes it off. Use it sparingly!
