Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fellow Rennlisters, A pothole over the winter ate my right rear. Wheel enhancements has replaced both tire and rim, but now I'm looking at my left rear and it is somewhat worn. The wear bars aren't wearing yet, but they are close. Do I run with mismatched rears, or replace the left before I put my summers back on? Advice please! I'm sure what a tire place would say ($$$) but would like an alternative opinion. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Running with mismatched rear tires is a really bad idea. I had a mismatch on my car for 2 days while waiting on a tire order and the car was extremely squirrely at even moderate speeds (~50mph). It only got worse on the interstate and was a real handful. Scary. I don't know the specifics of your situation so it may not be that bad. Just be aware.

POST 3Original post

Befor you put your summer on? Are you on winter tires? If that the case I would run it mismatch. The warmer months are only a few weeks away.

POST 4Original post

If your car has PSM, you definitely want to get the new tire or you'll confuse the computer because of the different spin rates of the wheels. Mismatched tires can also mess up a differential for similar reasons.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'll get the new rear before I put the tires on.
