BTW, when I checked the oil dip stick , it looked very clean.

If there is anything that I should check visually, I can probably do that.

Knowing him , if there needs to be an expensive repair work to be done in the near future, I am pretty sure he would pick up the bill.

The very first thing I would do is oil change when I take it over.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello
I am about to pick up 1999 C2 w/GT3 Aero Package this thursday from my friend. I just need to make sure I am getting a killer deal as he claims.
I dont have the full list of options but here is what I saw in the car
1999 996 C2 GT3 Aero
12K miles (yes very low)
Leather seats w/Porsche crest in the headrest
CD changer in the trunk
Heated Seats
Power Seats (Driver and passenger)
Sun roof
Is this a killer deal at 38K?
yes this price much lower than KBB, Edmunds and NADA.
Thx.
great deal for that mileage. i recently sold my 99 C4 aerokit minus wing with 75K miles for $38K. Still, there is no warranty and even low mileage cars can require costly repairs.
Thanks for replies. As I said in the post, I am buying it from a friend not a dealer thus I am getting a good deal. It is a favor. I had a car for a day and it drives like a new and brake has plenty life left. The rear tires need to be replaced and he will be put new tires all around. :-)
The reason I was asking the original posting was that I was not in the market for 991. He was going to trade it in for 911 Turbo and the dealer offered him $38K. He thought he would rather pass the car to me as I was in a market for a new car. Thus if I buy this car I may have to trade it in for something different next summer and I needed to know that I will get at least $35K with (15K miles) on it. I don't think I will drive more than 3K miles per year. Thanks everyone and I will post the pick when I take it over from him.
Pre-Purchase Inspection. This'll be tough since you are buying from a friend but there may be a problem even he doesn't know about. You wouldn't want to find out later and get stuck with the bill.
Sounds like a great deal. Do you know the full history of the car? Ever wrecked? Do a Carfax on the VIN, tho that can miss something. You can also call the dealership that serviced it, to see what they've done to it, etc. And yeah, get a PPI. He maybe a friend, but even $38k is a lot of money so spend based on faith alone.
yes i know the full history of the car. The car has never been wrecked. The only concern I have is his last oil was due July,01 at 13,000 miles but he hasnt done it yet as the car has not hit 13,000 miles. I guess he just sticks to the miles not the time period to do the oil change. BTW, when I checked the oil dip stick , it looked very clean. The very first thing I would do is oil change when I take it over.
PPI sounds like a right thing to do but I would have to purchase the car based on the good faith. Knowing him , if there needs to be an expensive repair work to be done in the near future, I am pretty sure he would pick up the bill. (verbally agreed) and thats why I dont feel comfortble bringing up PPI to him. If there is anything that I should check visually, I can probably do that. Maybe I can ask the dealer to perform PPI when oil change is performed. This way, I can casually bring this topic up if necessary.
The car has never been raced. This is one of many cars he owned.
I am excited now and really look forward to my new car :-)
That is a great price... if you do end up selling it next summer, you'll be able to get over $40K with that low mileage and aero kit. Don't worry too much about the oil, the dealer recommends changing it only every 15K miles. I do it a little more frequently though. With that low mileage, you can pick up a 3rd party warranty for $1500 for 3yrs/60K coverage if you wanted.
Steve
Bringing up a PPI should be no big deal if there is nothing to hide and you are footing the PPI bill which is really cheap. Its your business, but Porsches can get very expensive fast, even over relatively minor stuff.
