Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also ran one on a 1999 Suburban which a knucklehead hit to the tune of $19 k and it was clean too as was an 01 which was hit @ $10k.

I had a PPI done and car checks out "A" in all areas though rear tires will need replacing not too far down the road.

Re the tip, I have really gone back & forth on that and as I mentioned, didnt ever think it would interest me but it would awork pretty well for me in my use of the car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings folks from a new member..Chris in Richmond, VA. I have been looking for my first Porsche since a 912 I had while in college at the U of Colorado in 1972..lost my license my sophomore year after 3 tickets going up skiing!
What I have honed in on is a 2001 C4 Tip with 16k miles. It has what I want: C4, PSM, Technic package, Comfort package, 18" turbo look, right color for me - Seal w/ grey partial leather, hi performance but not Bose system. I have been pretty adamant about not getting a car that has had any body work and dealer said it had none. I had a PPI done and car checks out "A" in all areas though rear tires will need replacing not too far down the road. However the inspector detected a respray of the drivers side door, and I guess clearcoat to match elsewhere on the left side. He said that he can understand why the dealer wouldn't have seen it - it was very well done..visible at a 15* angle in the right light etc. He used a paint thickness meter. He suspected a parking lot mishap or something similar - nothing big and no cut through or any frame damage. He says the dealer is a reputable one who moves some serious highline metal.
I would appreciate thoughts on whether i am being overly picky about body work if it is of this nature? Subjective, I know, and ultimately my decision. I guess I am curious as to how much of a detraction this would be to someone a few years down the road when I resell. I guess there ARE people who absolutely won't touch anything like this, but am I turning away from a nice car for a minor reason?
Otherwise the car is what I want - I like the '01 front end. Never thought I'd consider the Tip but in every day driving I think I'll appreciate it. Don't require the supple leather, etc etc. Before the inspection, pricing talk was they were asking @ $56k, but they could do something @ $53k.
Thoughts on what I should be thinking $ - wise with the knowledge I have now?
Sorry to be so long winded - I will be more brief in the future; but this is a great forum that has been helpful to me in a very short time. This car may replace my '01 Caterham/Lotus 7 1700 Crossflow, BRG w/ red interior and a nice yellow racing stripe but i don't know.. it's a fun one!
Anyway thanks for having a look..
Chris
Yes you're being too picky IMO. If the paintwork's been done well, and it was obviously not a serious hit, then I wouldn't worry. But then, I have my C2 for driving, not for sitting in the garage looking pretty.
Sounds like a farily good deal, are you sure you want a tiptronic?
C.
Re the tip, I have really gone back & forth on that and as I mentioned, didnt ever think it would interest me but it would awork pretty well for me in my use of the car. Might be forced off the list
but the tip is where I am leaning now.
Chris
Chris, the dealer retail price I got at edmunds.com for that car is over $60K. So to me that sounds like a (very) good deal. And a very nicely equipped car I might add.
Having just gone thru a somewhat lengthy car buying process myself, I can say that I am quite satisfied w/ a tiptronic. I'm using my 2000 C2 as a daily driver and the traffic here in Northern VA just outside of DC is very heavy. If you need a quick burst of speed, even when you are in auto mode, you can downshift by pressing the steering wheel buttons and it goes into manual mode for 8 seconds.

2000 C2 tip, Arctic Silver/Blk, PSM, heated/comfort seats, HiFi Sound
David, though the traffic in Richmond is nothing like NOVA, that it part of my thinking too. Like Chris, my car won't be a garage queen, but more of a daily driver, often in the increasingly heavy traffic here. I had an 01 Cobra 5sp which I loved but grew to tire of the in town shifting. I can always blast around in the Caterham for a gear hit!
Carfax was clean - 1 owner lease. Also ran one on a 1999 Suburban which a knucklehead hit to the tune of $19 k and it was clean too as was an 01 which was hit @ $10k. As covered in another thread, Carfax has many limitations
Hi all..everything has worked out and I fly to Dallas tomorrow to pick this car up. I mentioned that the PPI that I did that came up with everything fine except 4/32 rears remaining. They are mounting new PS all around. Also have the TrafficPro from Crutchfield ready for install along with the CD changer direct from Becker/HK. BTW new CD for TP comes out this summer. Escort and XM all packed ready to go..back in Richmond possibly Fri PM but prolly Sat. Looking forward to a nice road trip!Talk to you then! Thanks for everyone's input.
