Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
If he chose bimmer than I know it was the gate to hell.
Leading evidence: 'gate' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'gate' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 friends go to a hotel. the bill comes up to 30.00.
each one pays 10.
they go to the room. Manager figures out that he has overcharged
them by 5 dollars. He sends the assistant to the room to take the 5.00 back to them. When the assistant explains to the 3 friends what has happened, they tell the guy that they can not divide the 5.00 between themselves, so they each take 1 dollar back and they give the guy 2 dollars to keep as tip.
so in reality they paid 10 - 1=9 dollars each for the room.
3 friends * $9.00 =27 + $2.00 (tip) = $29.00
where did the $1.00 go?
You don't add the $2 but subtract it. They spent $27 - $2 tip= $25 for room.
In a similar vein:
There is a 2 mile race track.
You drive 30mph for the first mile.
How fast do you have to drive the second mile to average 60 mph over the 2 mile track?
Alan
Give that man a cigar. To average 60 mph you would have to travel 2 miles in 2 minutes. You already used up your 2 minutes doing the first mile at 30 mph.
Alan
You arrive at the gate of heaven and hell. Two guardians are here. Neither of them is seated in front of a particular gate, they are just walking around. One of the gates leads to heaven, the other to hell, and as you might have guessed, you have to find which one. The only thing you know is that one of the guardian is always lying and the other always tells the truth. You can ask one question to one of them. What do you ask?
4 guys on one side of the island w/ only 1 Boxter trying to get to the other side.
A takes 1 minute to drive to the other side.
B takes 2 minutes to drive to the other side.
C takes 5 minutes to drive to the other side.
D takes 10 minutes to drive to the other side.
How do you get all across 2 at a time (the slower guy driving) under 17 minutes take in to account the time required for 1 of them to drive the car back to the starting point.
Peter
1. Drivers A&D go across = 10 minutes
2. Driver A comes back by himself = 1 minute
3. Drivers B&C go across = 5 minutes
Total time = 16 minutes
There is nothing that states that they all have to be on the other side; just that they all need to go 2 at a time.
Assuming the guardian that lies is the one to hell's gate, you would ask both guards which gate is each one the guardian of. The guardian of heaven's gate will tell the truth and point you to heaven; while the guardian of hell's gate will lie and point to the other gate -- also heaven. Now you have a concensus and off you go into heaven.
If however, the guardian that lies is the one to heaven's gate, then the same question will lead to the gate of hell. I figure if I'm gonna be lied to in heaven (meaning no Porsche), then hell makes no difference to me anyway.
yes, they all have to be at the other side. The above solution would leave A stranded on one side of the island. B would have to drive the car back to A and come back w/ A which would add 3 minutes to your 16.
there is no way get less then 17 minutes.
BTW: this is a variation of an actual question given to job applicants at Microsoft.
and sorry, it's boxster.
Peter
I'm pretty confident you have that question wrong. Getting it done in
under
17 minutes is impossible, but 17 minutes isn't.
1. A&B go across. (2 minutes)
2. A comes back (1 minute)
3. C&D go across. (10 minutes)
4. B comes back. (2 minutes)
5. A&B go across. (2 minutes)
Total 17 minutes.
