If the PSE goes around the chambers, then isn't it just running wide open with no muffling properties at all?

Hi, I have tried the cat back pipes from fabspeed and they sound superb, but just to loud for everyday use for me, I found I was getting a headache after 10 minutes or so.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been doing some research on here. What's the diff between the PSE and bypass pipes? From what I understand, when activated...the PSE completley bypasses the baffles and goes straight out. Is this true? If that's the case, why not just get bypass pipes?

POST 2Original post

Hi, I have tried the cat back pipes from fabspeed and they sound superb, but just to loud for everyday use for me, I found I was getting a headache after 10 minutes or so. PSE ..... it's not as simple as it looks or sounds, I have cut apart my standard silencers after finding a cut away picture on the net, if you compare the standard silencer with the PSE silencer from the outside it looks obvious that the PSE just bypasses chambers 2 and 3 (3 chambers in the rear box) after fitting a by pass pipe as per the factory this made no real difference to the sound, I am desperataly looking for a cut away picture of the PSE to make the mods to the standard silencer, cant find one anywhere (surprise surprise) but to answer your question, no its not just a bypass pipe !! Anyone who can help with the cutaway picture of the PSE please let me know. Regards Paul

POST 3Original post

Also I think when you refer to By pass pipes, it refers to by passing the cats not the silencers !! regards Paul

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, test pipes are the ones that go eliminate the cats. By pass pipes eliminate the mufflers. If the PSE goes around the chambers, then isn't it just running wide open with no muffling properties at all?

POST 5Original post

Ok, in the UK we call the "test pipes" "cat bypass pipes" cos they bypass the cats !! No .... the PSE has a link pipe eliminating chambers 2 and 3 or certainly 3, but there are internal changes as well which I cant find as yet, as I say if you eliminate the mufflers I think this will be to loud, if you listen to the fabspeed sound clip you will see how loud it is ...... sounds lovely but nothing like the PSE system ........... hope this helps. Any ideas where I might find a cutaway of the PSE ......... Regards Paul

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wish i could find it as well. i have a great exhaust guy in town who can make anything.

POST 7Original post

Ok tell you what we will do ........... YOU buy one cos there "only" $1500 bucks over there as oppossed to 1500 here, then cut the thing in half and we will know .......... happy days ............. look forward to you sending me a nice clear photo ... Thanks. As I say I have had a play but to no avail as yet, it does sound a lot better than standard, but nothing like the PSE......... just need that picture !

POST 8Original post

Hey Paul, Have you thought about contacting some of our porker scap merchants. Maybe they have a knackered one you could grab for buttons. Cheers, Berny

POST 9Original post

Doesn't the PSE have a system like the ferrari exhaust where it's only loud when accelerating but when idle or cruising it becomes quite again...Something about it being a ferrari patent? Point being it's more complicated than gutting your factory exhaust?

POST 10Original post

I dont think it is that complicated Keyvan, the outer shell is the same just the internals that are different, bit difficult to explain without you seeing a picture but its made up of several tubes inside, looks like they just have one pipe effectivly on the PSE, as I said I have moded mine but would like to see exactly what the factory do ............
