Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

regarding use on other cars, I've tried it on my F350 Diesel with 2 batteries and an old Acura Legend, but the LED light never comes on.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone had experience with the Porsche maintainer that plugs into the cigarette lighter? How well does it work, and is it safe to leave it connected for extended periods of time?
Any insight is appreciated... thanks!
It is great. Have left it on for a few months with no problems. Just need to make sure your battery is properly vented, and you check once a month the water level.
I have one for my '98 build 996. Still have the same battery from the dealer when I purchased the car. Trickle charger stays on as long as needed. It has a chip that will send a charge when the battery needs it. I never thought a battery would last almost 6 years.
I find it great!! No fuss and no muss..
When you guys say to leave the battery "vented", do you mean that you leave your hood open? Also, is it common for the battery to drain itself? (I haven't checked levels all winter).
Thanks.
Here's the deal, if your car sits all winter, it will probably start in the Spring. Do this for 3 years running and one day the car will be just dead! Bring $169.00 to Porsche and they'll give you a new battery! OR, use the maintainer during the winter ($50.00 or so) and the battery will last 6,7,8 or more years! My advice, use the battery maintainer!
regarding use on other cars, I've tried it on my F350 Diesel with 2 batteries and an old Acura Legend, but the LED light never comes on. It only comes on in the P-car. Maybe my sockets are bad in the other cars........
I use the Porsche charger on my Audi A6 and BMW 850 without issue. The cord runs under the 996 door without getting pinched. The rubber seal on the underside of the door has a notch which would accomodate the cord, but I never worry about lining it up, and I've had no problems. AS
