Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just bought a '99 C2 and noticed something on my drive tonight.. I was basically testing out the acceleration from a standstill and everytime the rpm hit 5500, I felt a lost of power for a split second, as if there is a RPM limiter. Is this normal at 5500 RPM?? Did the previous owner install a chip that I don't know about? Any comments would be appreciated.. Thanks! Slam19s

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oops, "loss of power", I mean

POST 3Original post

There is a rev limiter which cuts fuel to 1/2 of the cylinders but it should not come on so soon.

POST 4Original post

I tried a search but couldn't remember how it was referred to so couldn't find it, but wasn't there a TSB for this? Something to do with a dip in performance at high revs for a minute second. It picks up almost immediately. Like as if it coughs. Jeff, Loren do you recall this?

POST 5Original post

MAF Sensor failure? Your problem sounds exactly like the problem my 2001 Carrera 4 had. Dealer replaced MAF sensor under warranty and the car flies again.

POST 6Original post

My Boxster had a hesitation at 4k rpms and then it would rev up to full rpm where the rev limiter would come on. It was the air flow sensor.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, will check with previous owner and see.. Hopefully it won't be expensive, the car is out of warranty.. =(
