How much for the 15K service plus brake fluid change?

Though its only at 10K right now, I thought that I would move up the maintenance on it. What are dealers charging you guys for the minor 15K plus changing the brake fluid? Thanks y'all..

i don't know how much to change the brake fluid, but i paid $300 or so for my 15K service up here in boston.

2002 C4S. 15K service with brake fluid last week here in Raleigh, NC. I had both the oil and filter insert changed. They also changed the pollen filter, air filter, and front and rear wiper blades. The tab was $630.00. The Mobil one was $6.50 a quart for 10 quarts. So there's $70 bucks. I guess if you want to play, you've got to pay.

Thanks for the input. I admit I was a little shocked. I did the 15K on my Boxster and it was under $300. I have a meeting with the Service Manager this week. I will have to take a copy of this thread!!

But since you're under warranty, you can wait until a real problem crops up, no? And don't worry about voiding your warranty - the Magnuson Moss act means that Porsche must honor the warranty even if you do the 15k mile service yourself. So, a particle filter will cost you ~$45.74 (if you need to change it!), an oil filter will cost you ~$11.18 and the drain plug ring will be ~$.15, plus S&H. 9 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 at $4.77 apiece from Wal-Mart. Oh, and fluhing the brake fluid - that's really easy too. Again, DIY instructions are available on the web. A can of ATE Super Bleu or Gold 2000 is ~$9 plus S&H, a motive Power bleeder is $49.95 (GREAT tool!). That, a jack, a wrench, a wheel bolt socket and a torque wrench is all you need. The tools are great too for doing other services on your own, like changing pads and rotors, etc. vty, --Dennis

BigHeadDennis, Finally got home and looked at the invoice. $255 for 15 K service and $102 for the brake fluid change. All the rest was for wipers and filters, about double the prices you quoted. I can do the work myself, however, in this case I just had the RMS changed at 11K and thought it best to have it re-checked by Porsche. Of course, what can they tell me that I can't crawl under the car myself and see. Life is all about lessons and I learned an expensive one. As I said, I had the same service on my Boxster by the same dealership for half the price. I was definitely caught off guard. From now on I'll do the majority of work myself and use my "BigHead." Thanks for the advice.

Just had it done this week for $371.57 plus $155.57 for break fluid change here in Los Angeles.

dhud, good luck! I started out completely incompetant mechanically, but over the last couple of years, as I do more track events, the more I learned to do myself. It really isn't rocket science. Plus Porsche has made the 996 soooooo much easier to work on. E.g., on an early 930 I had, to remove the oil filter from the engine bay (not to unscrew the filter, but to actually get it OUT from the engine bay), one could (a) drop the engine a couple of inches, (b) remove the A/C compressor, or (c), remove the air filter so the housing could slide down another 1.5 inches, then maneuver the oil filter so it juuuuuust squeaks by. Oy. Anyway, I'm really surprised at the $155.57 for the brake fluid change that BasaltBlack had to pay. Like I said, ATE brake fluid is $9, retail. I'm sure "Porsche" brake fluid is probably something outrageous, like $27 or $32, but how does one get $120+ worth of labor? Is that 1.5 or 1.25 hours? Jeez, I can flush the brake fluid in my driveway in less than 30 minutes, and I'm a hack without a lift, air tools or the Porsche computer! Jeez..... I can't imagine that the ACTUAL time that the tech took was more than 20 minutes. Drive it onto the lift, remove wheels, attach computer and power bleeder, then tap each caliper. Did they also bleed the clutch too?!? That would add another 2-3 minutes.... vty, --Dennis
